FRESNO, Calif. - Abraham Friesen presents an in-depth study of the life and legacy of Dutch reformer 'Menno Simons' (published by Xlibris) and explains why he is a man with bad press in his new book. Readers will witness how the narrative deconstructs all the major theories relating to Menno's intellectual biography, and secondly it, for the first time sets Menno squarely into the context of the larger Reformation movement, establishing concrete connections to Luther's early writings and the biblical scholarship of Erasmus.

Before there was Downton Abbey, there was Our Betters, W. Somerset Maugham's fiery romantic dramedy about the invasion of sly social-climbing American heiresses into British society. The fifth play in the third season of Asolo Rep's five-year American Character Project illuminates a sect of wealthy, early 20th-century American women who yearned for the pomp and circumstance - and parties - of the British nobility. Directed by Asolo Rep's producing artistic director Michael Donald Edwards, Our Betters opens Friday, March 13, 2015 at 8pm and runs through Sunday, April 19 at Asolo Rep, with previews tonight, March 11 and Thursday, March 12 at 8pm.

When Mark Nadler, singing the iconic Irving Berlin song and Al Jolson standard 'Let Me Sing and I'm Happy,' strolls from the back of 54 Below to his rightful place center stage (accompanied by Nick Russo on banjo), he seems, in all respects, a jaunty, debonair thespian. The song is light, unembellished, infectious. What you're watching in truth is a state of the art ballistic missile unerringly headed for its target. 'My name is Mark and I'm a spotlightaholic.' Tonight Nadler celebrates two 'out of control' spotlightaholics--Danny Kaye and Al Jolson--both of whom put themselves (and kept themselves) in front of audiences every available moment. (The artist designates himself as a 'functional' sufferer of the compulsion.) Memorable anecdotes enlighten and entertain. 'In the spirit of Kaye and Jolson, however, this show is all about ME.' Four decades in, Nadler calls show business his religion. Judging by ensuing narrative, his zealous devotion is, in context, worthy of sainthood.

Prepare to be thoroughly enchanted by Oregon Shakespeare Festival's transfer of INTO THE WOODS newly arrived at the Wallis Center in Beverly Hills. It is, without a doubt, the most inventive and inspiring production of this Sondheim musical I have ever seen. Amanda Denhert's direction delights at every turn such that watching this INTO THE WOODS left my heart bursting with unadulterated joy, devastated by its unflinching honesty, and breathless with anticipation of each moment to come.
