British composer Sir Edward Elgar, the very model of an Edwardian English gentleman, may be remembered most for his melody, “Land of Hope and Glory,” better known in the United States as “The Graduation March.”

There are 58,000 homeless people in the county of Los Angeles, which represents the largest concentration of homeless in the nation. When criminal court Judge Craig Mitchell starts a running club on LA's notorious Skid Row and begins training a motley group of addicts and criminals to run marathons, lives begin to change. Directed by Mark Hayes, SKID ROW MARATHON follows Judge Mitchell and the members of the Midnight Mission Runners Club over a period of four years. The Judge, who suffers from a painful spinal condition, has been told by his doctors to stop running, but he chooses to ignore their advice. He needs the club and the balance it provides in his life, giving him the opportunity to change the world in a way that he can't in his own courtroom. If club members stay clean, off the streets and out of jail, the Judge will take them around the world to run marathons. The runners fight the pull of addiction and homelessness at every turn. Not everyone crosses the finish line. Their story is one of hope, friendship and dignity.

PEN America presents the 2019 PEN World Voices Festival: Open Secrets (May 6-12), focusing on the dissolving boundary between the public and the private in the literary, cultural, social, and political realms.  A flowering of the genres of literary memoir and personal testimony has been accompanied by increased digital avenues for story-telling, revelation, and expose before both designated and public audiences.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces Spring 2019 BAC Residencies, which will provide critical support to 16 artists developing projects and collaborations across disciplines. The six-time Tony-winning Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles has graced countless stages around the world with its film adaptation garnering three Oscar nominations. The Hong Kong premiere of La Cage features a live music and enthralling music and dance, invoking the beguiling beauty of drag queens. La Cage aux Folles is adapted by Harvey Fierstein with music and original lyrics by Jerry Herman, translated and directed by Artistic Director Anthony Chan, with Cantonese lyrics translated by Chris Shum. The production is choreographed by Mohamed Drissi with music director Edgar Hung and singing supervisor Beilosi Fung. A 23-strong cast is led by guest artist Pichead Amornsomboon and Ko Hon Man, Jordan Cheung, Lau Shau Ching and Mercy Wong. The production runs from January 19th to 27th at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre. Tickets are available now from URBTIX outlets.
