'I have been writing small poetry pieces for years, but there was never a story I wanted to sustain. I woke up one morning and realized there was a story that I wanted to tell, and I could do nothing else until I had done so,' author Rachel Strayer says. In her quest to be heard and be understood, Strayer holds on to a deck of tarot cards to ease expressing deep and personal pains, eventually creating relatable fantasies through her book 'Falling Night and Rising Day.'

For those of you looking to expand the boundaries of your comfort zone in 2014, now's your chance. Gorilla Tango Burlesque (GTB) has announced it will revisit its popular Star Trek burlesque in 2014 and is seeking Trekkies of all shapes and sizes to audition - newbies (ie those with no previous burlesque experience) are particularly encouraged to audition.

The 2013 BroadwayWorld San Francisco audience choice awards saw a fantastic number of nominations for theatres throughout Northern California this year, from Fresno's Good Company Players to Modesto's Gallo Center to Broadway Sacramento, San Jose and San Francisco. If only enough time existed for us writers to see every talented cast perform. Here are a few of my favorite productions from 2013 in a brief look back at some of the shows I was fortunate enough to witness.

From author Edward Cunningham comes a gripping account of the mystery behind one woman's murder in his new publication, 'The Perfect Patsy.' It chronicles how a sly man got away with his crime for many years. This is a story of how justice prevailed because of the perseverance of the police, the state's attorney, and the courage of a witness in coming forward.

Obie Award-winning playwright/performer David Drake, who most recently headlined an all-star ensemble benefit of his landmark show The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS last spring, returns to the New York stage with TAWNY, TELL ME TRUE. Written by and starring Drake, this drag tragicomedy with music will be directed by Robert La Fosse (Tony Award nominee for Jerome Robbins' Broadway) featuring musical direction by Lance Cruce (Joan River's longtime pianist, Karen Finley's Make Love), original music by Trevor Kuprel, and video by Ned Stresen Reuter. Performances begin October 19th at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.

Anna Greenfield is an emerging American playwright. Her play ALL GIRLS garnered a lot of recognition during its initial New York City run produced by Horse Trade Theater Group at New York City's Kraine Theater. The play is described as being "a hyper real and sometimes surreal play about three teenage girls and one colossally scary mother. Trembling on the brink of womanhood, the girls act out with one another and their families in the most outrageous ways imaginable." In the height of technical rehearsals, I digitally conversed with playwright Anna Greenfield, Susannah Eig (Morgan), Victoria Villarreal (Claude), Amy Michele Mire (Jenny), Kim Tobin (Mrs. Gray), and director Julia Traber about the upcoming Houston regional premiere of ALL GIRLS.

My Fringe was a bit of a mixed bag... I had high hopes for some shows that I felt quite let down by in the end and I was also pleasantly surprised by others, as detailed here.
