A total of 35 established and emerging writers, composers and lyricists will converge on the Goodspeed campus this month to participate in the first-ever Johnny Mercer Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers today announced the casting of the principal roles and the ensemble in the eagerly anticipated Broadway-bound musical MATILDA THE MUSICAL. They are (alphabetically): Karen Aldridge (Mrs. Phelps), Gabriel Ebert (Mr. Wormwood), Lesli Margherita (Mrs. Wormwood), and Lauren Ward (Miss Honey).

La Jolla Playhouse announces a new play development initiative, the DNA New Work Series, entailing a six-week period of workshop productions and public readings of new plays and musicals, taking place January 24 through March 3, 2013. The focus of the DNA New Work Series is to allow playwrights and directors the opportunity to develop a script by providing rehearsal time, space and resources, culminating in a workshop production or public reading.

The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers today announced the casting of the title role in the RSC's eagerly anticipated Broadway-bound musical MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Each of the four girls will play the role at difference performances: Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro. Each girl will be making her Broadway debut.

The producers of Roald Dahl's MATILDA THE MUSICAL announced today that Olivier Award-winner Bertie Carvel will reprise the role of Miss Trunchbull in the Broadway production of the Royal Shakespeare Company's eagerly anticipated musical which begins performances on March 4 and opens on April 11 at the Shubert Theatre (235 West 44th Street). Carvel received rave reviews for his iconic performance and won the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Canadian Opera Company General Director Alexander Neef is pleased to announce that Music Director Johannes Debus has signed a new contract with the COC that extends his tenure as Music Director through the 2016/2017 season. Debus joined the COC at the start of the 2009/2010 season with a contract that would have him with the company through 2012/2013.

The Canadian Opera Company has announced that, after four months of negotiations, the company's offer to the membership of Canadian Actors' Equity Association and the Toronto Musicians Association has been rejected. An agreement would have allowed the COC to continue to produce, in partnership with the CBC, broadcasts of the COC's entire 2012/2013 season on CBC Radio 2 and Radio-Canada's Espace Musique. These broadcasts have been in place since the fall of 2009.

Tonight, Monday 9/17 is the final performance for the Revolve Productions presentation of "PIECES" by Chris Phillips winner of an "EXCELLENCE IN PLAYWRITING" Award, for the 16th New York International Fringe Festival. The acclaimed play was named an early selection for this FringeNYC Encore Series. It was one of the four shows that were selected for the early announcement during the Festival, by a group of seven theatre producers led by Darren Lee Cole. The Encore performances are at the historic SoHo Playhouse at 15 Vandam Street (bet 6th Ave & Varick), NYC. Brian Zimmer directs the thought provoking drama.
