Aaron Copland once characterized "The Rite of Spring" as the foremost orchestral achievement of the 20th century, and The New York Times proclaimed the significance of the work to be "to the 20th century as Beethoven's Ninth is to the 19th." With the arrival of the centennial of Stravinsky's iconic masterwork, a reverberation of celebration can be heard around the symphonic world-and Pacific Symphony is no exception, offering a variety of activities throughout the rest of the 2012-13 season. In conceiving "The Rite of Spring," Stravinsky broke all the rules and defied convention, and it is very much in this spirit that the Symphony approaches its celebration.

In a partnership that will make history buffs and steak lovers alike take note, the cable network HISTORY and Morton's The Steakhouse announce a special power dining experience today in honor of the upcoming television series on HISTORY, THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA. The series chronicles how five American visionaries - Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Ford - created the very concept of the American Dream, transformed the U.S. into a global superpower in a span of just 50 years, and affected the lives of every person in the world. Allowing diners to experience a menu fit for these magnates and how they may have celebrated their momentous successes, Morton's will offer The Men Who Built America pre-fixe menu in all 63 of its U.S. locations. The menu will be available as of Friday October 12, 2012 and will run nightly for the next six weeks. THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA premieres Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 9pm on HISTORY.

This season, patrons will once again be treated to outstanding live theatre at Open Stage of Harrisburg's Angino Family Theatre directed by Founder and Executive Artistic Director Donald Alsedek. The season kicks off in October with Peter Morgan's FROST/NIXON, apropos for this election year. The season continues with a new holiday offering great for the whole family, Truman Capote's A CHRISTMAS MEMORY, a world premiere adapted for Open Stage by Harrisburg's own Jim Woland. Next is JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE, the 1910's installment of August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle of plays that chronicles the black experience in America. Closing the season is Sarah Ruhl's sweet and sexy comedy, IN THE NEXT ROOM or the vibrator play, which is sure to tantalize the patrons of the intimate playhouse on the street leveled of the Walnut Street Garage.

Feinstein's at Loews Regency which opened in 1999, has presented the top talents of pop and jazz, including Rosemary Clooney, Steve Tyrell, Barbara Cook, Glen Campbell, Diahann Carroll, Jane Krakowski, Lea Michele, Cyndi Lauper, Jason Mraz and Alan Cumming amongst hundreds of other performers. The venue's namesake Michael Feinstein appears there for a sold-out holiday engagement every year and had previously said that 'Feinstein's at Loews Regency is the perfect place to hear the greatest and most exciting interpreters of American popular song. It was 30 years ago this year that "The Color Purple," Alice Walker's novel, was originally published. It won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for fiction; it went on to be adapted into a film by Steven Spielberg. As a Broadway production-originally produced by Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones- the musical ran for two years and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards.
The national tour of that Broadway play, "The Color Purple" comes to Three Stages at Folsom College for three performances next month.
