Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

The 2015 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting today announced its judging panel ahead of this year's official launch on 29 January 2015, which will also mark the Prize's 10th anniversary. Back in the late 1990's before vampires sparkled, there was a town called Sunnydale that was home to Buffy. She wasn't just an average teenage girl, she slayed vampires. Spun off from the 1992 movie of the same name, the TV series, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER ran from 1997 – 2003. A little known fellow by the name of Joss Whedon brought a new kind of heroine to our small screens and vampires were in our lives to stay.

Their remarkable careers will be three more reasons to celebrate our 75th Anniversary Season.”

The verdict is in: BBC America has a hit on its hands with “Intruders.” The new paranormal sci-fi thriller, based off of the Michael Marshall Smith novel of the same name, wastes no time launching viewers into the action. While many genre shows (and at it's heart, “Intruders” is very much a genre show) overload audiences with difficult to follow plots and science references that fly over the heads of even the most educated viewers, Glen Morgan and his team manage to walk that fine line between over-complicated and painfully bland, creating an intelligently intricate show that encourages viewer participation…and that is also just plain fun to watch.

Casting is announced for Our Town at the Almeida Theatre. Award-winning US actor-director David Cromer will direct and perform in this intimate version of Thornton Wilder's iconic American play. From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.
