The legendary El Capitan Theatre becomes your destination this October for two Halloween season traditions: Disney's beloved Hocus Pocus October 6-15, followed by the 24th annual presentation of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas October 20-31, in 3D with spine-tingling interactive 4D sensory effects, including wind, snow, fog and much more. San Francisco Opera inaugurates its 95th season on Friday, September 8, with Puccini's Turandot, staged in the iconic production by English artist David Hockney and conducted by Company Music Director Nicola Luisotti, and two opening night galas. Saturday, September 9 features the opening of a new production of Richard Strauss' Elektra. The festivities continue on Sunday, September 10, with San Francisco Chronicle Presents Opera in the Park, an annual Bay Area tradition celebrating the opening of the opera season with a free concert in Golden Gate Park.

San Francisco Opera announced today a casting update for its season-opening production of Giacomo Puccini's Turandot, running from September 8 through 30 at the War Memorial Opera House. American soprano Toni Marie Palmertree will sing Liu, replacing Maria Agresta who has withdrawn due to illness. Originally scheduled to portray Puccini's tragic heroine on September 24 and 30, Palmertree will now perform in all six September performances.

The world-renowned Martha Graham Dance Company has announced its New York City Center season, new commissions, studio series, and tour schedule for the 2017-2018 season. Actor/cabaret singer Stephanie Trudeau will perform a return engagement of her docu-cabaret, 'Chavela: Think Of Me,' at Pangea Supper Club, 178 Second Ave. (East Village), June 26 at 7:30 PM. She had debuted the piece there on May 15 and has been invited back in response to the appreciation of her audience and an enthusatic review. 

A special one-night-only edition of Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out! will be presented this summer at The 5th Avenue Theatre on Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 PM. A star-studded concert of songs, comedy and commentary, the Seattle edition of Concert for America will feature world class performers including Tony Award-winner Roger Bart (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Broadway star Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid) and Tony nominee and longtime 5th Avenue Theatre favorite Kerry Butler, who originated the role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray at The 5th and on Broadway. Seattle's critically acclaimed Spectrum Dance Theater, Naomi Morgan, who starred as Mimi in Rent at The 5th and Caety Sagoian (Jasper in Deadland at The 5th) will also perform. Concert for America will benefit national organizations working to protect human rights. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

Goodman Theatre announces that playwright Jim McGrath's newest work - Pamplona, which begins preview performances tomorrow - has been extended for one week, now closing on Sunday, June 25.

The Ruth Page Center for the Arts will hold its annual Ruth Page Legacy Gala at the Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Saturday, May 13. The evening begins at 5:15 p.m. with a VIP Reception, followed by dinner, a live auction, award presentations and dancing from until 11 p.m.
