Soprano Tracy Cox and Pianist Maureen Zoltek Perform in Inaugural Opera America's Emerging Artist Recital Series, 9/25

Soprano Tracy Cox and pianist Maureen Zoltek, winners of the 2012 Music Academy of the West Marilyn Horne Song Competition, will perform a program of works by Verdi, Strauss, Mark Carlson, Poulenc, and Gabriel Kahane at Opera America's new National Opera Center in New York City on Wednesday, September 25. The recital, which begins at 8 pm, will inaugurate Opera America's Emerging Artist Recital Series, a showcase for finalists and prizewinners from the nation's most prestigious young artist programs and competitions. Tickets cost $20. The National Opera Center is located at 330 Seventh Avenue in New York City.

NYC Ballet Opens with SWAN LAKE, 9/17; Full Season Announced!

New York City Ballet will open its 2013-2014 season on Tuesday, September 17 with six performances of Peter Martins' full-length production of Swan Lake. Set to Tschaikovsky's score and featuring sets and costumes by the acclaimed Danish painter Per Kirkeby, the production was last performed by NYCB in the fall of 2011 to sold-out houses.

The Music Academy of the West will present a fully staged production of Mozart's timeless operatic masterpiece The Magic Flute - Santa Barbara's first in 15 years - at the Granada Theatre tonight, August 2, and Sunday, August 4. Performances will take place at 7:30 pm tonight, August 2 and at 2:30 pm on August 4.

Baritone John Brancy and pianist Mario Antonio Marra have been named winners of the 2013 Music Academy of the West Marilyn Horne Song Competition, which took place July 20 at the Music Academy's Hahn Hall. Messrs. Brancy and Marra will each receive a cash award of $2,500, and will be presented in recital next year at Hahn Hall, Santa Monica's Broad Stage, and the National Opera Center in New York City. Tenor Andrew Haji was the recipient of an Encouragement Award. Biographies appear below.

Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Announces 2013-2014 Season

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is pleased to announce its 2013-2014 concert season. Under the continued artistic leadership of Music Director José-Luis Novo, the season will feature the Lexus Classic Series, a combination of five classical concerts, as well as a Holiday Pops concert sponsored by PNC Wealth Management, a Family concert and a free summer Pops in the Park concert presented by Lexus. All concerts are performed at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, MD with the exception of the Pops in the Park concert which is held at Quiet Waters Park amphitheater, also in Annapolis.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. There are only a few more performances to catch for Gerard Alessandrini's FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE AND KICKING! at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street). The smash musical, which received unanimous raves from critics and audiences alike, broke all box-office records at the 47th Street Theatre and won spots on the Top Ten Lists of Time Magazine and the Associated Press, will begin its hiatus on Sunday, April 28, in order to make room for The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's own season, as required by the show's lease agreement with the theatre.
