W. E. B. DU BOIS: A Man for All Times, written and directed by Alexa Kelly (using many of Du Bois own words), featuring BrIan Richardson, with costumes by Terry Leong (Conan O'Brian Show), lighting by Joyce Liao (Pan Asian Rep. Theatre for the New City, Abingdon Theatre, 59E59), sound by Louis Lopardi (Fresh Fruit Festival NYC, Boston Conservatory), and sets by Ruben Arana Downs (Faculty-SUNY, FAMU), will perform in the NY International Fringe Festival. Celebrity chamber music ensemble Escher String Quartet stays in Festival residency for the final week with three diverse concert programs. 

The Louis Armstrong House Museum's annual Jazzmobile Block Party on Thursday, August 25, 2016 features the Steve Kroon Sextet. Jazzmobile block party is the grand finale to the museum's Summer with Satchmo season.  It's a free, family-friendly event featuring art-making workshops sponsored by the Queens Museum and hula hoop fun beginning at 4:00 pm.  At 5:30 pm, Fulanito, the Latin Grammy nominated Merengue band will perform and warm up the crowd.  Downbeat for Steve Kroon and the Latin Jazz Sextet is at 7:00 pm.   The museum will be open late until 8:30 pm.

The Public Theater recently announced that Louis Cancelmi, last seen as Caliban in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, had stepped into the company of Troilus and Cressida as Achilles, replacing David Harbour, who suffered an injury during previews and will be unable to complete the run. The play celebrates its opening tonight, August 9, after a short delay.

The Public Theater announced today that Louis Cancelmi, last seen as Caliban in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, has joined the company of TROILUS AND CRESSIDA as Achilles. He is replacing David Harbour who suffered an injury during previews and will be unable to complete the run. The new press opening will now be Tuesday, August 9.

Irene Bunis, the veteran wardrobe supervisor for many Broadway productions since 1980, passed away on July 21st in New York City.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announces Ava DuVernay's documentary The 13th as the Opening Night selection of the 54th New York Film Festival (September 30 - October 16), making its world premiere at Alice Tully Hall.

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

Celebrity chamber music ensemble Escher String Quartet arrives for a week-long residency on Cape Cod in August, filling the final days of Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival's (CCCMF) 37th season with three diverse concert programs. The performances feature the Festival's two artistic directors as instrumental guests, both celebrating the 10th anniversary serving CCCMF. Escher Residency and Nakamatsu is presented on Monday, August 22 at 7:30 pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 204 Monument Road, Orleans. Escher Residency and Manasse on Wednesday, August 24, 7:30 pm is held at Chatham Congregational Church, 650 Main Street. The season comes to a brilliant close with Escher Residency and Symphonic Finale on Friday, August 26, 7:30 pm at Wellfleet Congregational Church, 200 Main Street.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. The third play in Circle Theatre's 35th anniversary season is Tom Dudzick's backstage comedy, Don't Talk to the Actors begin today.

The national tour of the Broadway musical HAMILTON will play in St. Louis as part of the 2017-2018 U.S. Bank Broadway season, it was announced today by producer Jeffrey Seller and the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

The third play in Circle Theatre's 35th anniversary season is Tom Dudzick's backstage comedy, Don't Talk to the Actors. A budding playwright's dreams are swept away into a theatrical nightmare when his play is optioned for Broadway. Mr. Dudzicks's semi-autobiographical tale is bound to be another fan favorite at Circle, like his previous productions Over the Tavern (2005); The Last Mass at St. Casimir's (2007); Hail Mary! (2009); and Miracle on South Division Street (2013).
