Arthur Gelb, the much beloved Managing Editor of The New York Times, a champion of theater coverage there as early as the 1950s and beyond, and co-author, with his wife Barbara, of a massive three-volume biography of American playwright Eugene O'Neill, is celebrated in the CUNY TV rebroadcast of a 1999 THEATER TALK interview, co-hosted by Michael Riedel of the New York Post and producer Susan Haskins, airing today, May 30 (2014) at 9:30am, 2:30pm, and 7:30pm. Mr. Gelb passed away on May 20.

The award-winning Peccadillo Theater Company will present a staged reading of one of Eugene O'Neill's most autobiographical plays, The Straw tonight on Monday, June 4th at 7 pm at Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street, between Ninth & Tenth Avenues). The presentation will be directed by Peccadillo's OBIE and Lortel Award-winning artistic director, Dan Wackerman. The cast will feature Ellen Adair, Cyrilla Baer, Jacqueline Baum, Jeffrey C. Hawkins, Eric Hoffmann, Susan Jeffries, Jodie Lynne McClintock, Ryah Nixon, Keith Perry, Richard Poe and Lee Aaron Rosen. Tony Triano will narrate.

As the final of three mainstage productions during the two-month Eugene O'Neill Festival spearheaded by Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, Long Day's Journey into Night rounds out this celebration of O'Neill's life and work. The English-born and Canadian-based director and former Stratford Festival Artistic Director Robin Phillips makes his Arena Stage debut to direct his fourth production of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play in a theatrical career spanning more than 50 years.

From a playwright better known for his darker stories comes the brilliant Ah, Wilderness!, O'Neill's singular comedy that represents a fantasy of what his own childhood might have been. Helen Hayes Award winner and former Arena Stage Associate Artistic Director Kyle Donnelly returns to direct her 21st show at Arena Stage, which features an almost entirely local cast led by Rick Foucheux, Nancy Robinette and June Schreiner. Ah, Wilderness! runs March 9-April 8, 2012 in the Fichandler Stage.

In homage to one of America's greatest playwrights, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater hosts the Eugene O'Neill Festival, a two-month examination of the life and work of O'Neill. Similar to the Edward Albee Festival in 2011, this celebration will feature unique collaborations with other arts and education institutions in a diverse program of events. The Eugene O'Neill Festival runs March 9-May 6, 2012 and is sponsored by Joan and David Maxwell.
