The lovely Emily Swallow plays Flo in new work, NICE FISH, by Mark Rylance & Louis Jenkins, at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater through May 18. She took a moment off the stage to tell BroadwayWorld.com in Minneapolis about her current role, her experiences coast to coast and spending time ice fishing, tour guiding and working hard in Minneapolis and beyond.
The Public Theater presents the English language premiere of NEVA, written and directed by Guillermo Calderon, through Sunday, March 31 in The Public's Anspacher, with an official press opening on Monday, March 11. Trevor Nunn directs the Old Vic and Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Kiss Me, Kate, with Music and lyrics by Cole Porter and Book by Sam and Bella Spewack, which is scheduled for London performances from 1 December followed by a Chichester premiere on 27 June 2012. La Jolla Playhouse presents An Iliad, a one-man adaptation of Homer's classic tale, adapted by Denis O'Hare (Tony Award-winning actor in Take Me Out) and Lisa Peterson (director of The Playhouse's Surf Report and Be Aggressive), based on a translation by Robert Fagles, directed by Lisa Peterson. A co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, An Iliad features Henry Woronicz as the "Poet," with Brian Ellingsen as the "Musician" and runs now through September 9 in the Mandell Weiss Forum. Performed at the glorious Hawaii Theatre in historic, downtown Honolulu, Bridges explores the connections of past, present and future through interpretive Chinese folk dance. The Phoenix Dance Chamber featured this evening was founded by Diane Letoto, and inspired by folk dance specialist of the Beijing Dance Academy, the late Professor Liu Youlan. Youlan's vision, that dance would build a bridge between eastern and western cultures, comes to fruition in this luminous production.
