La Jolla Playhouse, nationally-renowned for the development of new work, announces four world-premiere productions for the 2017/2018 season, including the previously-announced Escape to Margaritaville (May/June), featuring the songs of legendary singer-songwriter-author Jimmy Buffett and an original story by co-book writers Greg Garcia ('My Name Is Earl') and Mike O'Malley ('Survivor's Remorse,' 'Shameless'), directed by La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley (Come From Away, Memphis).

GK Arts Center Presents Gelsey Kirkland Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER

GK Arts Center is proud to host Gelsey Kirkland Ballet's perennial holiday classic, The Nutcracker. This is the fourth year this production of The Nutcracker will be performed over the course of a special two-week engagement, running December 8-18 at the GK Arts Center (29 Jay Street, formerly St. Ann's Warehouse in Dumbo, Brooklyn, N.Y.).  The 18-member company is under the artistic direction of Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov.

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Möst announce further details of their new production of Debussy's Pelléas and Mélisande.  The impressionistic French opera, with its luminous and hypnotic score, is being presented at Severance Hall this coming spring, with performances May 2, 4, and 6, 2017.  The creative team for this brand-new, made-for-Cleveland production is being led by Director Yuval Sharon working with Set Designer Mimi Lien, Lighting and Projection Designer Jason Thompson, Choreographer Danielle Agami, and Costume Designer Ann Closs-Farley.

Stage Left Theatre Announces incoming Co-Artistic Directors and New Ensemble Members

Stage Left Theatre announces that current Artistic Director Vance Smith will be succeeded by Co-Artistic Directors Jason A. Fleece and Amy Szerlong. An Ensemble Member since 2009, Fleece has served as Associate Artistic Director since 2013. He recently directed SLT's critically-acclaimed production of The Body of an American. Involved with Stage Left since 2012, Szerlong became an Artistic Associate in 2013 and an Ensemble Member in 2015. She is currently directing the world premiere of The Bottle Tree. Smith will maintain his role through October, and will produce The Bottle Tree with the assistance of the new leadership.

Denise Simone to Step Down at Company of Fools

Simone is leaving to refocus her professional life away from day-to-day management in favor of more artistically focused projects.

Ellen McDougall Appointed New Artistic Director of Gate Theatre

The Gate Theatre today announces that Ellen McDougall has been appointed as its new Artistic Director. McDougall, who takes up the position in March 2017, is currently an Associate Artist at the Gate, served as Associate Director for two years from 2012, and directed an acclaimed production of Idomeneus at the theatre in 2014. She replaces Christopher Haydon who leaves to pursue a Clore Fellowship and a number of freelance opportunities.

Name an opera or operetta and it is likely listed in soprano Sarah Rice's repertoire. Over her long and illustrious career, she has starred and performed in a myriad of productions all across the map, from Broadway to Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Italy. Strauss, Salieri, Sondheim--- it's there. Now, in her first solo show since 2013, Rice will debut her new show Music of the Night (borrowing, of course, from Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, in which Rice played Christine in the National Tour) at Pangea Restaurant Pangea Restaurant (2nd Avenue between 11th and 12th streets) on August 17, 18, and September 20, all at 7 pm. Alongside pianist Matthew Martin Ward (Eric Sedgwick for the September show) and special guest David Vernon, she will sing and play a set aimed to explain 'the things that go through your head at 4:00 AM,' covering classical, Celtic, television and movie themes, and musical theatre.

Stage Left Theatre is pleased to announce the programming for its 35th season. The season begins with the world premiere of The Bottle Tree by Beth Kander directed by ensemble member Amy Szerlong. The Bottle Tree was developed through Stage Left's Downstage Left program, at the Ashland New Plays Festival and and has received an Honorable Mention on The Kilroys List for the past two years. Next, in the winter, Stage Left and Cor Theatre present a co-production of What of the Night? by Maria Irene Fornes, directed by Carlos Murillo. This epic meditation on poverty in America was a Pultizer finalist in 1990. Cor Theatre Artistic Director Tosha Fowler says of the partnership, 'With admiration for Stage Left's longevity and the exciting opportunities they provide to artists through their strong commitment to mission, we at Cor are thrilled to announce a collaboration of theatre that is bound to leave you breathless. Combining Stage Left's strength with our fearless aesthetic, Fornes' poetically primal voice, and Carlos Murillo's passionate vision, What of the Night is going to be our biggest leap yet.'
