Two New York premieres will be featured in a concert by the Temple University Symphony Orchestra on Friday, April 9, 2010, at 8 p.m. in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall (Broadway at 65th St., Manhattan).

The Drama League (Jano Herbosch, President; Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director) is pleased to announce that 'Cheers' and 'Frasier' stars Kelsey Grammer (La Cage aux Folles) and Bebe Neuwirth (The Addams Family) will reunite to announce the nominations for The 76th Annual Drama League Awards.

The New York Philharmonic will present The Russian Stravinsky: A Philharmonic Festival conducted by Valery Gergiev on April 21-May 8, 2010. The three-week festival - one of several initiatives launched during Alan Gilbert's first season as Music Director - will offer an in-depth look at Stravinsky, exploring how his Russian roots informed his works. Led by the Russian-born Mr. Gergiev, the festival will feature eight programs over three weeks, including concerts, lectures, pre-concert talks, radio broadcasts, podcasts and an Archives exhibit.

One of the works, Ansel Adams: America (in its New York premiere) by jazz great Dave Brubeck and his son, Chris, will feature 100 projected images by the eminent American photographer. The all-American program also includes works by Bill Cunliffe (also a New York premiere), Samuel Barber, and Leonard Bernstein.

Television and film star Zach Quinto is expected to star in the upcoming George Gershwin biopic, produced by DreamWorks and Steven Speilberg, according to published reports. Quinto, star of television's 'Heroes' and the recent JJ Abrams Star Trek remake, will play the famed composer who, during his short life, wrote many vocal and theatrical works, including more than a dozen Broadway shows.

Ray Bradbury, author of classic novels such as Farenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles, will get the first full production of his musical, 2116, after having sat on the back-burner for more than 50 years. The musical will made its debut at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena under the title 'Ray Bradbury's Merry Christmas 2116' for its initial run. Following that, the musical will premiere under the shortened title 2116 along with a companion piece Wisdom (1916) under the title 'Ray Bradbury's Wisdom.'

The second act of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's 1984 musical, Sunday In The Park With George is centered on a then-contemporary artist/inventor named George who has created a series of machines called chromolumes, which electronically fill rooms with color and light. His latest, 'Chromolume #7' is intended to present a variation on themes inspired from Georges Seurat's revolutionary work of pointillism 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' (1884-86), the creation of which is the subject of the musical's first act. When a technical glitch short circuits the machine and causes a temporary delay in the chromolume's premiere presentation, George sheepishly explains to those gathered, 'No electricity, no art.'

Variety reports that DreamWorks will be memorializing composer George Gershwin in a new biopic to be penned by Memoirs of a Geisha writer and Creditor's director Doug Wright, and produced by Marc Platt ('Wanted') and famed singer and pianist Michael Feinstein.

The Drama League and its friends held a special cocktail reception for 'Mr. Broadway' himself, Stewart F. Lane as he discussed producing for today's theatre. Lawrence Edelson, Producing Artistic Director of ALT, has announced that the company has commissioned The Golden Ticket, a new opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In his announcement, Edelson explained that all of Dahl's beloved characters find a unique voice in this exciting new opera. 'If thoughts of Augustus Gloop being swept away in the Chocolate River, Violet Beauregarde inflating like a giant blueberry, Mike Teavee being demagnified into the tele-dimension, and Veruca Salt being thrown down the rubbish shoot by a gang of nut-inspecting squirrels sound like your idea of a fun night at the opera - or better yet, unlike any night at the opera or theater you've ever experienced - The Golden Ticket is....just the ticket!'

Lawrence Edelson, Producing Artistic Director of American Lyric Theater, has announced that Kyrian Friedenberg, the ten-year old singer, violinist and actor most recently seen in Gypsy with Patty LuPone on Broadway, has been cast as Charlie Bucket in ALT's upcoming workshop and reading of The Golden Ticket, a new opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Speaking of the young performer, Edelson said that 'Kyrian has a wonderful voice, is incredibly musical, and has charisma that is truly contagious. After hearing him sing Charlie's first act Aria from The Golden Ticket, I had no doubt that he was the right boy to bring Roald Dahl's classic character to life in our upcoming workshop.'
