Littlebrain Theatre Announces Debut Production BICYCLE THIEVES
by BWW News Desk - Feb 22, 2019

Littlebrain Theatre is pleased to announce its debut production: Bicycle Thieves, premiering January 2019 as a part of Curious Theatre Branch and Prop Thtr's Rhinofest. Bicycle Thieves is a devised stage adaptation of the 1948 Vittorio De Sica film of the same name. The play follows the story of Ricci, an Italian worker striving to build a stable life for his wife and child in a post-war depression economy. When he finally finds a job that requires him to own a bike, the family pawns their possessions to purchase one. The bike is stolen on his first day of work, launching Ricci and his child Bruno into an odyssey through the streets of Rome to retrieve it. The play tackles the difficult relationship between ethics and class - the morals we strive to hold for ourselves, and the desperate situations that can cause even the staunchest minds to compromise their beliefs. With a diverse cast of nine and a team of interdisciplinary designers, Littlebrain will explore the transition of film to stage in a fresh reimagining of this classic story.

BWW Review: ROPE Fascinates at Actors Co-op
by Don Grigware - Sep 24, 2018

In 1948 Alfred Hitchcock directed the film Rope based on Patrick Hamilton's 1929 play. Its setting was switched from London to New York, and at least for me, the psychological crime story played out in a very talky, uninteresting manner. The stage play, by the way, is rarely produced. Currently onstage at Actors Co-op, Rope is a fun, delightful romp through a game of murder that perks attention from the moment it starts, and thanks to brilliant director Ken Sawyer and his outstanding cast, it's a riveting and enjoyable evening in the theatre, far, far ahead of that Hitchcok movie. I hate the word p

Napa Valley Museum Announces The Opening Of California Dreamin' In The Main Gallery
by A.A. Cristi - Aug 14, 2018

]From August 30 through October 28, 2018 in the Main Gallery, Napa Valley Museum Yountville will present: California Dreamin'. Melissa Chandon and Matt Rogers' joint exhibition at the Napa Valley Museum Yountville embodies the idyllic 'California Dream' of freedom and vitality. Paintings of palm trees, lifeguard stations, and woody-style station wagons carrying surfboards set against expansive blue skies capture the indelible collective memory of the relaxed, carefree beach lifestyle that took hold of imaginations around the world in the 1960s.  With their vivid dream-like palettes and sense of light and air, Chandon and Rogers have each earned reputations for depicting the essential character of the Golden Coast. This exhibition - which also includes rare woody cars, surfboards and other elements of surf culture - unites the artists' visions, celebrating a moment in time when the world collectively dreamed of the fun and sun of 1960's California, and embraced its spirit of love, peace, and connection. Opening Celebration on Saturday, September 1 from 5 - 7:30 pm is FREE for members; $20 for Non-Members.

TORTURED FOR CHRIST The Movie Premieres in U.S. Cinemas March 5
by Macon Prickett - Feb 22, 2018

In February of 1948, during the Russian occupation of Romania, communist secret police arrested Pastor Richard Wurmbrand on the streets of Bucharest. Wurmbrand, like thousands of other political prisoners, was imprisoned because he publicly proclaimed his faith in Christ in an era of communist atheism. Ultimately serving more than 14 years behind bars, Wurmbrand was part of an entire generation of Christians who experienced a form of communist persecution that was invisible to the world. Miraculously, he survived, was freed in 1964, and came to America.

Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures Company spell electricity from the getgo. When critics, actors and other fans heard that Bourne was bringing the premiere US production of The Red Shoes to the Ahmanson for two weeks only, it instantly became a hot ticket. Why? What he produces and directs supercedesballet; even wordless, it's as theatrical as you can get with visual images and musical sounds that are super exciting to watch and listen to...and the music of Bernard Herrmann accompanying this piece is one of the greatest treats imaginable.
