Bella Vita Entertainment in association with the Whitefire Theatre (which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary) will present a world premiere play, SLOW DANCE IN MIDTOWN, written and directed by Elizabeth Sarnoff ("Lost," "Deadwod," Alcatraz") and stars Don Swayze, Meredith Scott Lynn, Nick Stabile and Tricia Small. SLOW DANCE IN MIDTOWN will preview on Tuesday, April 3; Wednesday, April 4 & Thursday, April 5 at 8pm and will open on Friday, April 6 and run through Saturday, May 12 at the Whitefire Theatre, 13500 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.

The New Group will present the world premiere of An Early History of Fire, a new play by Tony Award-winning playwright David Rabe. Directed by Jo Bonney, this production features Deema Aitken, Gordon Clapp, Erin Darke, Jonny Orsini, Devin Ratray, Dennis Staroselsky, Theo Stockman and Claire van der Boom. Limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated April 5 - May 26 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Official Opening Night is set for Monday, April 23 at 7:00 PM. Lily Rabe, who was previously slated to star in the play will no longer be taking part in the production.

Paper Mill Playhouse has just announced the full creative team behind its season opener, the premiere of a new Disney stage musical, Newsies. Featuring music by eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act, The Little Mermaid), lyrics by Jack Feldman and a new book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), Newsies is adapted for the stage from the 1992 live-action Disney feature film musical. Saturday evening July 2nd, Joan Rivers was spotted in the audience at SILENCE! The Musical, the unauthorized parody of The Silence of the Lambs, at Theatre 80, located at 80 St. Marks Place (between First & Second Ave.) The legendary comedienne/actress was the first to leap to her feet at the end of the performance, leading the standing ovation. Joan chatted with the cast after the show and she even offered some tongue-in-cheek advice to leading lady Jenn Harris regarding her first scene. Jenn replied, 'You're an asshole!' The two actresses fell into each others arms dissolved in laughter.
