For the first time in the U.S., legendary Japanese composer Akira Ifukube's massively influential monster music comes to life in the chamber pop/rock aural extravaganza, Godzilla Legend-Music of Akira Ifukube. Presented by Japan's popular techno-pop bandHikashu, this 90-minute tour de force performance features favorite themes and sensational musical set pieces from some of the most reveredGodzilla movies of all time. Devised and arranged by Hikashu founding member INOUE Makoto under Ifukube's endorsement, the performance features narration by Inoue, who also plays synthesizers, and appearances by 'extreme vocalist' and multi-instrumentalist MAKIGAMI Koichi, current Hikashu front man, and rising star art-pop duo Charan-Po-Rantan. The one-night-only concert takes place Friday, April 28, 7:30 pm, at Japan Society.

Bristol Riverside Theatre hosts its 30th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, June 3 at 5:00 PM.  The evening honors Keith Baker's 25-year tenure as Artistic Director at BRT and concludes the 30th anniversary season of BRT. 

Madison Opera has announced the company's 2017/18 season, which feature a classic opera and two Madison Opera premieres.  The season opens in November with Bizet's Carmen, followed by Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio in February, and Catán's Florencia en el Amazonas in April. 

Following the enormously successful opening of James Macdonald's new production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Imelda Staunton, Conleth Hill, Imogen Poots and Luke Treadaway, producers today announced the forthcoming live broadcast of the play to cinemas throughout the UK and beyond as part of National Theatre Live.

Novato Theater Company continues its successful 2016- 2017 season with the musical comedy, Company, with book by George Furth and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.  The show was originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince.  The NTC production is directed by Patrick Nims, with musical direction by Andrew Klein and choreography by Kate Kenyon.  It is produced by Vicki Martinez.  Company runs March 24-April 16at the NTC Playhouse, 5420 Nave Drive in Novato.

Dundalk Community Theatre kicks off its 2016/2017 season with a musical tribute Always….Patsy Cline from October 28th - November 6th.  The season is then followed by "I Hate Hamlet" and "Shrek:  The Musical". Lainie Kazan is an American actress and singer. She was nominated for the 1988 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for St. Elsewhere, and the 1993 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for My Favorite Year. She had previously received a Golden Globe Award nomination for the film version of My Favorite Year (1982). Her other film appearances include The Delta Force (1986), Harry and the Hendersons (1987), Beaches (1988), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016). Kazan made her Broadway debut in The Happiest Girl in the World in 1961 followed by Bravo Giovanni (1962).

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported earlier this week, Marni Nixon, perhaps best known for dubbing the singing voices of the leading actresses in films, including THE KING AND I, WEST SIDE STORY and MY FAIR LADY, passed away from breast cancer on July 24th. She was 86.

Happy Birthday Arthur Laurents! Laurents' first play, Home of the Brave, opened on Broadway in 1945, followed by many others. He wrote his first musical, West Side Story, in 1957, followed by Gypsy and others. His first screenplay was The Snake Pit in 1948, followed by others including Rope, Anastasia, The Way We Were and The Turning Point. His own play, Invitation to a March in 1960, was the first of several he directed. I Can Get It for You Wholesale in 1961 was the first musical he directed, followed by others including La Cage aux Folles and Gypsy with Angela Lansbury, then Tyne Daly and most recently, Patti LuPone. He pased away in May 2011.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, award-winning Broadway actor John McMartin has passed away at the age of 86. McMartin most recently appeared on Broadway in 2014's ALL THE WAY and the 2011 revival of ANYTHING GOES.
