The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, announces its Fall 2016season of public programs. The season features free public programs throughout the fall and winter, with contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

La MaMa begins its 55th season of innovative works from around the world - 70 productions in all - with its 2016 Puppet Series featuring a variety of fully-staged productions, a puppet slam, a workshop for kids and conversations with leading artists in the realm of puppetry from September 24 to November 6, occupying La MaMa's numerous stages in the East Village.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize.

Movie fans get ready… it's that time of the year again, and The Granada Theatre's popular Summer Film Series is back! The Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts (SBCPA) is pleased to present their most exciting lineup of films yet, encompassing a wide range of genres that all guests are guaranteed to enjoy! This summer, The Granada Theatre will screen films in three series: "Summer Classic Movie Series," "Comedy Tonight: The Films of Mel Brooks," as well as a returning favorite, the "Reel Cool Summer Series!". Around the World in 80 Days will kick off the summer series on May 22, followed by cult classic, Blazing Saddles, on May 24, and Shrek on May 25. BroadwayWorld has just learned that Tony Award-winner Beth Leavel (THE DROWSY CHAPERONE) will star in the Muny's new cabaret, MUNY MAGIC, at Sheldon Concert Hall.

Combining a provocative parable of sin and redemption with a good, old-fashioned ghost story, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Carrie, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark, Fox's Glee) explores what might have come next for the real-life Puritan villainess at the center of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. ICT artistic director caryn desai [sic] directs the West Coast premiere of Abigail/1702, opening tonight, May 1 at International City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Two low-priced previews are set for April 29 and 30.

The program also reprises audience favorites TAKE FIVE...More or Less, Broadway-darling Susan Stroman's sunny slice of jazz-infused Dave Brubeck fun; and Susan Marshall's distinctive aerial duet, Kiss. TVLine reports that Oscar-winner stage and screen star Dianne Wiest is set to guest star on NBC's THE BLACKLIST in Episode 15, called “The Judge”. She will play the head of Amnesty United, an organization against the death penalty.

Tony Award-winning actors Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher, Spamalot) and Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone, Elf), Tony nominee Annaleigh Ashford (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), and Broadway stars Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show], The Little Mermaid) and Derek Klena (Wicked, Dogfight) are all scheduled to take part in the developmental reading. Dog and Pony will receive its World Premiere at The Old Globe next spring, running May 28 - June 29, 2014; casting for that production will be announced at a later time.
