As reported over the weekend, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Edward Albee, passed away at the age of 88. The revered playwright died in his sleep at his home in Montauk, Long Island. The Dramatists Guild has just released a thoughtful, heartfelt a statement on Albee; read it in full below!

Since their inception in 2009, the Platform series, Danspace Project's signature curatorial initiative, has 'given dance presentation a makeover.' (The New York Times). Conceived by Danspace Project Executive Director and Chief Curator Judy Hussie-Taylor as exhibitions that unfold over time, Platforms are multi-week series of performances and events, organized by guest curators, that act as deep inquiries into artistic practice and concerns. Ten Platforms have been held to date, each accompanied by a print catalogue.

Platform 2016: Lost & Found, the eleventh and most ambitious edition to date, will examine the impact of AIDS on generations of artists.

Abrons Arts Center presents Colin Gee and Angie Smalis in Chaplet of Roses and They Go Out in Joy, two works developed from fragments of the past. In the case of Chaplet of Roses, it is a 15th-century tapestry; in They Go Out in Joy, it is a collection of photos of Irish emigrants. The performance is part of Abrons' Travelogues dance series, curated by Laurie Uprichard. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, May 8, at 3pm, at Abrons Arts Center's Experimental Theater.  Promotional support provided by Irish Arts Center.

This dynamic solo performance by Sara Shelton Mann pays tribute to her iconic and iconoclastic role in Bay Area and international dance history, starting with her years in NYC with Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis through her decade plus as the choreographer of Contraband to her subsequent collaborations with local and international artists.

Featuring four performers, marionettes of various sizes and assorted antique moose and deer antlers, the piece will be presented by Theater for the New City tonight, March 5 to 22. The piece is written and directed by Vit Horejs and co-created by Horejs and the cast.
