Booking for the summer season at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough opens on Monday 19 February. The season opens in June with the hilarious adaptation of John Buchan's The 39 Steps that has played to packed houses in both the West End and Broadway - but started life in North Yorkshire.

Highlights of the month include multi-night runs from Jazz vocalist (and Chicago transplant) Lizz Wright (Nov. 1-2), Herb Alpert of Tijuana Brass with his wife, Grammy-winning singer Lani Hall, (Nov. 6-7), and four shows over two days with saxophonist Kurt Elling (Nov. 25-26) plus a benefit for Merit School of Music with Nico Segal (previously known as Donnie Trumpet from the Chance the Rapper-affiliated band, The Social Experiment) and The JuJu Exchange (Nov. 28) and much more.

Utah Opera Hosts MUSIC AND THE MIND Presented By Renée Fleming With Dr. Norman Foster

On September 11th at 4 PM, Utah Opera in partnership with the University of Utah School of Music hosts world-renowned soprano Renee Fleming at Libby Gardner Hall in an eye-opening free lecture exploring the connections between music, health, and the brain. "Music & The Mind" is an hour-long multimedia presentation with Renee Fleming and Norman L. Foster, M.D., Professor of Neurology and Senior Investigator of The Brain Institute at the University of Utah and Director of the Center for Alzheimer's Care, Imaging and Research. Tickets are not required but seating is limited and first come first served - doors open at 3:30 pm.

Tuesday, August 8, 2017) Tickets are now on sale for the first production of WP Theater's 40th Anniversary Season, the world premiere of One Night Only (running as long as we can) by Monica Bill Barnes & Company (The Museum Workout; Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host with Ira Glass), produced in association with New Neighborhood. The show begins performances at WP Theater (2162 Broadway) on Saturday, September 9 with opening night set for Tuesday, September 19.

A lineup of leading performers, including Jimmy Kimmel, Steve Martin, John Mulaney, Bill Murray, Paul Shaffer, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, Eddie Vedder, and others will salute David Letterman at the 20th annual Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 8 p.m. The 20th Anniversary program will pay tribute to the humor and accomplishments of Letterman, and will be taped by WETA Washington, D.C. The program will air on PBS stations as David Letterman: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize nationwide on Monday, November 20 at 9 p.m. (check local listings). Artists are subject to change.

New York Philharmonic Presents New Music Series, CONTACT!

The eighth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, will conclude with two World Premieres of New York Philharmonic Commissions, Sam Pluta's binary/momentary ii: flow state/joy state and David Fulmer's Sky's Acetylene; the program also includes Eric Wubbels's katachi (2011) — featuring conductor Jeffrey Milarsky, Sam Pluta on live electronics, and a vocalist to be announced — and Jacob Druckman's Come Round (1992). The concert, performed by Musicians from the New York Philharmonic, takes place Monday, May 22, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at National Sawdust.

Entering its eighth season in 2016-17, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will return to National Sawdust in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for two chamber programs featuring New York-area composers. This season of CONTACT!complements the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season celebrations, which highlight the Orchestra's rich history of commissioning and premiering important works and salute its hometown of New York City. Esa-Pekka Salonen, who is in the second year of his three-year tenure as the Philharmonic's Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence, continues his advisory role on CONTACT!.
