Sam & Dave's 1967 hit single “Soul Man'; the classic radio western “Gunsmoke”; Ritchie Valens' groundbreaking 1958 sensation “La Bamba”; the revolutionary 1968 Broadway musical “Hair”; and Neil Diamond's 1969 “Sweet Caroline,” which became a popular sports anthem, are the newest recordings inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden today named these and 20 other recordings as aural treasures worthy of preservation because of their cultural, historic and aesthetic importance to the nation's recorded sound heritage.

Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird has been much in the news of late, what with a brand spanking new Broadway production (written by Aaron Sorkin and which opened this past December) and reports of dozens of productions around the world of the stage adaptation written by Christopher Sergel being shuttered due to threats of legal action from Scott Rudin, producer of the new Broadway version, and attorneys for the Harper Lee estate.

Pipeline Theatre Company has announced full casting for the world premiere of jazz concert-party-play hybrid Playing Hot, created by Kevin Armento (Balls) and Jaki Bradley (1969: The Second Man). Playing Hot is written by Armento and C.A. Johnson (Thirst), will be directed by Bradley, and will feature musical supervision by Marcus Miller. Playing Hot will begin previews at Theater 511 (511 West 54th Street) on April 18, 2019, and officially open on May 2, playing a limited engagement through May 12, 2019. Today, two-time GRAMMY-nominated blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassaannounces his new US Summer tour dates for 2019 in support of his all-original studio album Redemption (J&R Adventures) which was released last September. The tour will stop at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY on July 30th for a pavilion-only concert.

The San Diego Women's Chorus ('SDWC'), San Diego's premier lesbian-identified community chorus, is proud to present a monumental 2019 spring concert performance titled 'Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall.' The event will feature a brand new commissioned work of the same name that honors the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City by relaying the events that kickstarted the modern international LGBTQ movement. In addition to the 'Quiet No More' commission, SDWC will be performing a selection of electrifying and empowering pieces, including songs like 'You Will Be Found' from the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, and the Isley Brothers' throwback, 'Fight the Power.' This inspiring event will take place on Saturday, May 18, 7 PM and Sunday, May 19, 4 PM, 2019 at the Lincoln High School Center for Performing Arts, 4777 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, PBS announced a celestial programming spectacle sure to excite any space enthusiast. A SUMMER OF SPACEmultiplatform experience, anchored by the highly anticipated AMERICAN EXPERIENCE six-hour film “Chasing the Moon,” and including new science and history programs, will begin in July timed to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 moon landing. “Chasing the Moon,” written, produced and directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Stone, premieres Monday-Wednesday, July 8-10, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET. The film tells the story of the space race, from its earliest beginnings to the monumental achievement of the first lunar landing in 1969.

Following the recent news that a fire had destroyed the entire set of their touring production on New Year's Eve, London Classic Theatre are pleased to announce that the extension of the UK tour of Charlotte Keatley's My Mother Said I Never Should will go ahead as planned. Kathryn Ritchie returns to play Jackie Metcalfe and will be joined by Rebecca Birch (Rosie Metcalfe), Lisa Burrows (Margaret Bradley) and Judith Paris (Doris Partington). Artistic Director of LCT, Michael Cabot, directs the production, which tours to a further 14 venues in 2019. The tour starts at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth on 6 February, with performances in Newtown, Ipswich, Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Richmond, Derby, Poole, Winchester, Worthing, Epsom, Swansea and Oldham before concluding at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford in April. Press night will take place on Wednesday 27 February at Richmond Theatre.
