One of the world's best loved musicals, based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp; The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Maria is a young, aspiring but quirky, nun whose love of freedom makes it obvious to her superiors that she is not suited for religious life. Westchester Broadway Theatre presents THE SOUND OF MUSIC, with Music by Richard Rodgers, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and Book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse. The theater will be alive with The Sound of Music when a one-hour concert sing-along adaptation of the classic show is presented by Bergen County Players (BCP) as the final Second Stage production of the 80th season. Running for just three performances, from June 21st through June 23rd, shows will be on Friday and Saturday night at 8pm while the Sunday matinee curtain will be raised at 2pm. The 2014 season of New York City Center's Tony Award-winning Encores! series will open with Little Me directed by John Rando and starring Christian Borle ('Smash,' Peter and the Starcatcher) on February 5, 2014. TimeLine Theatre Company, dedicated to presenting plays inspired by history that connect to today's social and political issues, announces that The How and the Why by Sarah Treem (Netflix's House of Cards, HBO's In Treatment), directed by Keira Fromm and starring Janet Ulrich Brooks and Elizabeth Ledo, will be the third production of its 2013-14 season.

Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Story, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, announced Arlene Shuler, President & CEO of New York City Center. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, and conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center. City Center's annual Gala Benefit will take place on Thursday, November 14 and will include a post-performance dinner at the Plaza Hotel.

According to the New York Observer, broadway song writing veteran Sheldon Harnick's new musical version of Moliere's The Doctor in Spite of Himself, might play New York in the near future. Harnick revealed that the show, which played the William Inge Festival in 2011, could possibly open at Classic Stage Company next season.

From the songwriting team of The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees is filled with hit songs including "Two Lost Souls" and the sultry favorite, "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets." The Paper Mill Playhouse production will slide into Seattle this April. The creative team includes direction by Mark S. Hoebee (Paper Mill's Producing Artistic Director), music direction by Ben Whiteley, and choreography by Denis Michael Jones.
