Opera San Jose opens its 2016-17 season with Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. Donizetti drew inspiration for this opera from Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor. The story revolves around a feud between two families, the Ashtons and the Ravenswoods. Lucia Ashton loves Edgar, master of Ravenswood, whose land her family has taken by force. When Lucia's brother, out of political necessity, forces her into an arranged marriage, there are dire consequences. Donizetti expertly combines the epic story of Lucia with some of the most wonderful melodies from his pen and the most affecting mad scene in theatre.

New York, NY - Sir Simon Rattle will conduct The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and Orchestra of St. Luke's in a special benefit concert to include Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughn Williams and Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings on Sunday, September 18 at 7:00pm. The concert will be the last in a yearlong series of performances that have been offered at St Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in honor of Maestro John Scott who served as Organist and Director of Music for eleven years, and who died unexpectedly in August 2015.  Proceeds from the concert will be used to create a Saint Thomas Choir School scholarship to assist choristers in need which will be established in John Scott's memory.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (July 25, 2016)—Conducted by Semyon Bychkov in May 2016, the 13th annual Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital platforms by Sony Classical on August 12 and broadcast on PBS's Great Performances on Friday, September 30 at 9 p.m. (check local listings.). The Summer Night Concerts are presented free each year in the gardens of Vienna's Imperial Schönbrunn Palace, and Mr. Bychkov—conducting the event for the first time—led the Vienna Philharmonic in front of its largest Summer Night Concert audience ever (102,000 spectators). The performance reached an additional 585,000 people through TV and radio, having been broadcast by 83 stations on five continents.

General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the selection of the inaugural class of the Resident Artists Program. They include: soprano April Martin, mezzo-soprano Samantha Gossard, tenor Casey Candebat, baritone John Viscardi and pianist Kyle Naig. The Drama League announced today that Jennifer Sunshine has been appointed the company's new Development Director, beginning July 11th, 2016.  Ms. Sunshine is the final new addition to The Drama League's leadership, three of whom were announced last month: Associate Producer Travis LeMont Ballenger, Program Director Sherri Eden Barber, and Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, whose position was expanded to Executive Artistic Director.  The announcement caps a transformative season for The Drama League, in which the organization broke fundraising records, served over 3,000 artists, and celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Lawrence Edelson, Artistic and General Director of Opera Saratoga, announced the program for the 2016 Summer Festival, which will run from May 28 through July 17, 2016.
