The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andris Nelsons have entered into a new partnership to create Classical Live, a unique initiative that offers a new paradigm for the distribution of live recordings of classical music available only on Google Play Music. Classical Live will offer participating orchestras—the BSO, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra—an opportunity to release up to four live concert recordings each season for download exclusively on Google Play Music with the first recordings to be made available at music.google.com or classical-live.com beginning on June 15.  

The Cleveland Orchestra announces a Gala Concert on Saturday, October 3, at 7 p.m., with soprano Renee Fleming joining Music Director Franz Welser-Most and The Cleveland Orchestra in performance.  Chaired by Norma Lerner, co-chair, Nancy McCann and corporate chair, KeyBank Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Beth Mooney, the Gala Concert supports educational services that the Orchestra provides for the Northeast Ohio community.  The performance will be followed by a dinner in the lobbies of Severance Hall.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces the Pittsburgh premiere of Raisin' Cane: A Harlem Renaissance Odyssey, starring Jasmine Guy and The Avery Sharpe Trio, which will be performed tonight, April 16, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., at the Byham Theater, 101 Sixth Street, Pittsburgh's Cultural District. This event is part of the Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents series, presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The creative concept for this production was inspired by the classic 1923 Jean Toomer novel 'Cane' and works by the musicians, composers, poets and actors of the Harlem Renaissance. The Arizona Daily Star said, 'Cane is a sweet salute to Harlem's glory days' and the Dayton Daily News wrote the performance was 'Lively, informative, motivating and entertaining...'

Imitating the Dog, one of the UK's most original and innovative performance theatre companies are set to bring their unique theatrical vision to Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 19 - 22 November when they stage the first UK stage adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's seminal First World War novel A Farewell to Arms.

In the summer of 1918, as the Great War rages in Europe, two individuals wage their own battle against injustice in America, risking their lives for the right to marry. Winding up the 2014 Antaeus season of modern classics, Gregg T. Daniel directs a fully partner-cast revival of Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White by Alice Childress. Wedding Band runs today, Oct. 18 through Dec. 7 at the Antaeus Theater in NoHo, with low-priced previews beginning Oct. 9.

Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Beethoven's King Stephen Overture; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, with pianist Jeremy Denk in his Philharmonic debut; and Stravinsky's The Firebird (complete), tonight, October 16, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 17 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m.

The Canadian Opera Company's 2014/2015 season gets off to a rollicking start with a hilarious new production of Verdi's Falstaff, from acclaimed Canadian director Robert Carsen. Inspired by the beloved Shakespearean character and the resulting folly of his ill-advised seduction attempts, Carsen's production of Falstaff sets the action in a lovingly rendered 1950s England. The all-Canadian cast stars world renowned bass-baritone Gerald Finley, returning to the COC mainstage after more than 20 years, in a highly anticipated role debut as the title character. Joining Finley is baritone Russell Braun as Ford, Falstaff's nemesis; soprano Lyne Fortinas Alice Ford, mezzo-soprano Lauren Segal as Meg Page and contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Mistress Quickly, the women determined to teach Falstaff a lesson; soprano Simone Osborne as the lovesick Nannetta; and tenor Frédéric Antoun as Nannetta's amorous suitor Fenton. COC Music Director Johannes Debus guides the COC Orchestra and Chorus through the lyricism and artistry of Verdi's score that captures all the joy, wisdom and profound humanity of Shakespeare's comic invention.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a community engagement initiative, 'Threads of Time, Fabric of History: 'Intimate Apparel' in Context,' September 27 through November 1. The series of events, many of which are free-of-charge, will run concurrently with the Playhouse's production of Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage's play, 'Intimate Apparel,' directed by Mary B. Robinson, a love story confronting race and religion. The play won the American Theatre Critics and New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards for Best Play.

In Autumn 2014 Blackeyed Theatre Company tours Stephen MacDonald's Not About Heroes to over forty theatres across the UK . Marking the centenary of the beginning of The First World War, this major revival of MacDonald's play, about the poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, performs from 10 September until 6 December 2014.

PICT Classic Theatre's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, by Frank McGuinness, opens just about 100 years after the historical WWI events that are authentically portrayed in the performance. Running today, September 4, through September 20 at the Stephen Foster Memorial, the play, appropriate for ages 12+, leaves audiences with a better emotional understanding of events that changed the course of millions of lives and a sense of the surprising ways that WWI continues to shape the world today.

In conjunction with the centennial of World War I and the Kansas City debut of the Pulitzer Prize winning production of Silent Night, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents Over There! at the National World War I Museum tonight, August 23. This 1914 field dining experience, co-chaired by Trudy and Jack Gabriel, will include a cabaret performance featuring music of the era.

The 'Alley Theatre @ UH' season begins with Betty Buckley, Hallie Foote, Annalee Jefferies and Veanne Cox in award-winning Texas playwright Horton Foote's The Old Friends, a Southwestern premiere.

The Cleveland Orchestra announces details about its annual Gala Concert taking place on Saturday, October 11, at 7 p.m. Pianist Lang Lang joins music director Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra in the concert which features works by Tchaikovsky. The 2014 Gala is spearheaded by community philanthropist Norma Lerner as Gala Chair and KeyBank Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Beth Mooney as Gala Corporate Chair. Today, at a press conference in Edinburgh, Director Jonathan Mills revealed the artists, companies and work from around the world which will fill the stages of Edinburgh's annual cultural celebration. Over 2,400 artists from 43 nations have been invited to Edinburgh to perform in the annual showcase of the world's great performing artists.

Jude Monk McGowan has just finished playing Conrad in the acclaimed Punchdrunk/National Theatre production of The Drowned Man: A Hollywood Fable. His other credits include Joe Wright's screen adaptation of Anna Karenina, Little Britain and Faith, Hope and Charity at Southwark Playhouse. Laura Atherton's theatre credits include the recent imitating the dog productions The Zero Hour and Six Degrees below the Horizon. The other roles will be played by Morven Macbeth (LeanerFasterStronger, Sheffield Theatres/Chol Theatre), Matt Prendergast (Six Degrees Below the Horizon, imitating the dog), Marco Rossi (Histra, Ferodo Bridges) and making his professional stage debut Joshua Johnson.
