Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for A LIFE, the world premiere of a new play by Obie Award winner Adam Bock (A Small Fire and The Drunken City at Playwrights, The Receptionist, The Thugs, Swimming in the Shallows). Directed by two-time Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman (Marjorie Prime, Detroit, Maple and Vine at Playwrights; You Got Older; Belleville; This Wide Night; Smokefall), A LIFE will be the second production of the theater company's 2016/2017 Season.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. 'I could compare my music to white light which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener.' - Arvo Part

Paula Vogel Coming to Playwrights' Center, 6/20

Celebrated playwright and teacher Paula Vogel will spend two days at the Playwrights' Center in June as part of the Dramatists Guild Fund's Traveling Masters Program. 2016 National Festival of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Begins Next Week

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 150 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 48th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 12-16, 2016 in multiple locations throughout the Center. Thousands of student artists from eight regions across the country presented their work at regional festivals from January 5 through February 27, 2016 and more than 150 were selected to travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the national festival.

CHICAGO – The Chicago Dance History Project is delighted to announce its second public event produced in partnership with the Newberry Library and second in its “Conversations on Chicago Dance” series, following the inaugural “Tap Over Time” panel at the Old Town School of Folk Music in April 2015. “Conversations on Chicago Dance: Founding and Sustaining a Company” brings together for discussion the founding leaders of three of the city's most enduring dance institutions: Dame Libby Komaiko of Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary season; Joel Hall of Joel Hall Dancers & Center, founded in 1974 as Chicago City Theatre Company; and Hema Rajagopalan of Natya Dance Theatre, also founded in 1974, and devoted to the classical Indian dance form of Bharata Natyam. Next-generation administrators also attending include Ensemble Español co-artistic director Irma Suárez Ruíz, Joel Hall Dancers & Center assistant artistic director Jacqueline Sinclair, and Natya associate artistic director Krithika Rajagopalan. Vineyard's Co-Production of INDECENT Begins Performances Next Month Off-Broadway

Robert Falls' and Seth Bockley's world premiere adaptation of Roberto Bolaño's famed novel, 2666-which has received extraordinary audience enthusiasm during previews and officially opens tomorrow, February 16-has been extended. Four additional performances include March 17, 18 and 19 at 6:30pm and March 20 at 1pm. The 15-member all-Chicago ensemble cast remains unchanged during the added performances.

DVORAK IN AMERICA with Czech Marionettes to Play La MaMa, 3/10-27

'The New World Symphony: Dvorak in America' is a puppet and object theater work examining the influence of African-American and Native American music upon the great 19th-century Czech composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904). The piece is written and directed by Vit Horejš and performed by Czechoslovak American Marionette Theatre. It traces how Dvorak helped America accept its beautiful multicultural musical traditions by his enthusiasm for African-American and Native American music during his short but influential time in the USA. La MaMa Theatre will present the play's world premiere run March 10 to 27, 2016 in its Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East 4th Street (East Village). Composer and Musical Director is saxophonist James Brandon Lewis.

2016 Vilcek Prize in Theatre Goes to Blanka Zizka

The Vilcek Foundation just announced the winners of its annual Vilcek Prizes, recognizing immigrant contributions to the American arts and sciences. The 2016 Vilcek Prize in Theatre, presented to an immigrant artist with a record of major achievement in his/her field, is awarded to Blanka Zizka, the recipient of a $100,000 prize.
