In celebration of his 80th birthday year, esteemed American composer Philip Glass has been appointed to hold the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2017-2018 season. The yearlong residency will present performances that feature both Glass classics and premieres: American Composers Orchestra dedicates a program to composers inspired by Glass; the Philip Glass Ensemble and the San Francisco Girls Chorus perform his groundbreaking but rarely performed masterpiece, Music with Changing Parts, as part of the citywide festival The '60s: The Years that Changed America; notable premieres include a string quartet for the JACK Quartet and arrangements by composer Nico Muhly of lesser-known Glass songs-both Carnegie Hall commissions; additionally, the Louisiana Philharmonic andPacific Symphony both make their Carnegie Hall debuts in programs selected, in part, by Glass in response to invitations extended to U.S. orchestras to submit programs that place important works by the composer in illuminating contexts. Victory Gardens Theater continues its season with the World Premiere of A Wonder In My Soul, written by ensemble playwright Marcus Gardley and directed by Artistic Director Chay Yew, with original music by Jaret Landon. A Wonder In My Soul runs February 10 - March 12, 2017, with the press performance on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 7:30pm at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue.

New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) brings its highly acclaimed Legends & Visionaries series to the 92Y Harkness Dance Festival from February 24-25, 2017 at the The 92Y, located at 1395 Lexington Avenue, NYC 10128.

The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic, which recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, has been awarded to Dutch composer Louis Andriessen.

The script is now in production by the Baldwin Wallace Department of Theatre and Dance and the Conservatory of Music's Musical Theatre Program.

Coyote StageWorks, the Coachella Valley-based award-winning Actors' Equity professional theater company, will begin its 2016-2017 'Legendary Ladies' season on November 26, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. with a staged reading benefit gala performance of the beloved production 'Steel Magnolias,' by playwright Robert Harling. It will feature performances by well-known actresses Florence Henderson, Sally Struthers, Carole Cooke, Mo Gaffney, Yo Younger and Elaine Hayhurst and will be held at the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum. 

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce legendary tap innovator and choreographer Brenda Bufalino as the recipient of the 2016 NY Dance and Performance Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance; and The Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and Alex Smith, Executive Chairman of the Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center, as this year's recipients of Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance.

The North Shore Civic Ballet (NSCB), a nonprofit dance company based at the Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) in Marblehead, Massachusetts, has launched the 2016-2017 annual campaign for the Ruth N. 4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) opens its 2016-2017 season on September 9th  with Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated masterpiece, True West-a modern American classic exploring themes of sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what it means to 'be a man.' Like a runaway train, this dark comedy about two brothers and their mutual resentment takes audiences on a thrill ride into the dark side of the human psyche, with laughs and unexpected moments of revelation along the way.  In its world premiere, the San Francisco Chronicle noted that True West is "clear, funny, naturalistic. It's also opaque, terrifying, surrealistic.  If that sounds contradictory, you're on to one aspect of Shepard's winning genius-the ability to make you think your watching one thing while at the same time he's presenting another."
