The New York Philharmonic will salute departing Principal Trumpet Philip Smith - who will step down from his position at the end of the 2013-14 season following 36 seasons of service - in A Celebration of Phil Smith, a concert featuring the New York Philharmonic Brass and Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Smith and Bramwell Tovey, July 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. The program will also include works that showcase brass: an arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Procession of the Nobles; a Horn Quartet by Gershwin; Tomasi's Liturgical Fanfares; an arrangement of The Great Gate of Kiev from Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition; and Pollack's That's a Plenty, which the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet, of which Mr. Smith was a founding member, has frequently performed as an encore on the Orchestra's tours. Philharmonic musicians will introduce the works and speak about Mr. Smith.

Theater for the New City's award-winning Street Theater Company opens its 38th annual tour August 2 with 'EMERGENCY!!! or The World Takes A Selfie,' a rip-roaring outdoor musical comedy about a New York EMT worker on a workingman's grand tour of the world, who decides to tackle global problems the way he does emergencies of his NYC beat. Free performances will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds throughout the five boroughs through September 14. The piece has book, lyrics and direction by Crystal Field and musical score composed by Joseph Vernon Banks.

The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. This spring, the Museum of Arts and Design presents its latest cinema series, Go Nightclubbing Archive, featuring selections from a historic video archive of the burgeoning New York punk scene from 1975 to 1980. In partnership with NYU's Fales Library, which recently acquired the archive, MAD will premiere ten individual screenings that draw from over 200 hours of remastered footage by Emily Armstrong and Pat Ivers.

The San Francisco Early Music Society's 2013-14 concert series comes to a close next month with a program of love songs and consorts performed by the Farallon Recorder Quartet with soprano Jennifer Paulino and lutenist John Lenti. Titled Amaryllis, Farallon's concert features a variety of Renaissance music from across Europe that explores the possibilities for recorder consort, lute and voice. Farallon performs today, March 14 - 16 in Palo Alto, Berkeley and San Francisco.

The ASCAP Foundation just honored Tony Award-winning lyricist and director of Annie Martin Charnin with the first-ever ASCAP Foundation George M. Cohan Award at their 18th annual Awards Ceremony last night, December 11th. The invitation-only event, hosted by ASCAP Foundation President Paul Williams, was held at the Allen Room, Frederick P. The Eagles, have added additional dates to their busy 2013-2014 concert schedule. When it comes to the rock scene of the 70's, one of the most memorable bands from that era would have to be The Eagles. This band was so influential and popular in the 70's that 40 years later plenty of their songs can still be heard on the radio. For fans that would want to see them back in action, there will be several more opportunities to see Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. The concerts will take place tonight, November 7, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m.
