Cavalleria Rusticana Revival

On 18 June 2023, the Hungarian State Opera celebrates the greatest Hungarian soprano of the 20th century on the occasion of her birthday with performances by her former and current students, as well as the winners of the Eva Marton International Singing Competition.

Rafael Davila will sing the role of Radamès in Verdi's Aida on Sunday, April 30. Jorge de León will sing the role on May 6 (evening), May 10, May 13 (matinee), and May 18, replacing Marcelo Álvarez who has withdrawn due to illness.

Soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska will sing the title role in Puccini's Tosca on April 8 and 12, replacing Angela Gheorghiu, who is ill. She will also sing the final performance on April 15, as was previously announced. 

Vancouver Opera will complete its successful 2022-2023 season with The Flying Dutchman. Written by one of the world's greatest operatic composers, Richard Wagner, this production will delight opera enthusiasts and casual fans alike.

San Diego Opera's 2022-2023 season comes to a close with Zach Redler's opera about  military spirit with The Falling and the Rising. The Falling and the Rising opens May 12, 2022 at 7:30  PM at the Balboa Theatre as part of the dētour Series.

The Royal Opera House today announces that sadly Jonas Kaufmann has withdrawn from all performances of Cavalleria rusticana. Mr. Kaufmann is continuing to recover from COVID-19 and is not well enough to sing the remaining performances.  

The Royal Opera House today announced that Ermonela Jaho has withdrawn from all performances of Pagliacci due to illness. The role of Nedda will now be performed by Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak - in addition to singing the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana.

In announcing its 2022/23 Season today, Boston Lyric Opera has unveiled an expanded, year-round return to stages throughout Boston.

In another gesture of solidarity with the victims of the war in Ukraine, the Metropolitan Opera and the Polish National Opera will gather leading Ukrainian musicians into the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra for a European and American tour July 28–August 20, including stops in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, before culminating with concerts in New York and Washington, DC.

Not complying with the Met’s condition that she repudiate her public support for Vladimir Putin while he wages war on Ukraine, soprano Anna Netrebko has withdrawn from her upcoming Met performances in Puccini's Turandot this April and May, as well as the run of Verdi's Don Carlo next season. “It is a great artistic loss for the Met and for opera,” said Met General Manager Peter Gelb. “Anna is one of the greatest singers in Met history, but with Putin killing innocent victims in Ukraine, there was no way forward.”

Due to health challenges affecting the Phoenician Tenors, the West Valley Symphony has revised the program for the March 6 performance at The Vista Center for the Arts.
