This spring Japan Society continues to honor the late Donald Richie, whose criticism, commentary and advocacy contributed incomparably toward making Japanese art and culture, especially its cinema, revered throughout the world. As the second and final leg of the ongoing series, again curated by noted film scholar Kyoko Hirano, A Tribute to Donald Richie (1924-2013), Part 2: Richie's Electric Eight: The Bold & the Daring encompasses eight films that reflect the complexity, nuance, and brilliance of Japanese society, as seen through Richie's unflinching and insatiable eye.

Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for Alan Ayckbourn's science fiction comedy Communicating Doors. Eleven plays penned by Alan Ayckbourn have been produced by the Alley, including the American premiere of Henceforward, directed by Ayckbourn, in 1987 and House & Garden in 2002. Alan Ayckbourn has been inducted into the American Theatre's Hall of Fame, received the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Services to the Arts, became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards and was knighted in 1997 for services to the theatre.

Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation presents Broadway star Susan Egan, who originated the role of 'Belle' in Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, as part of its first season at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center, tonight, March 1 at 8pm. Joining Egan on stage is the sixty-member Arcadia Stage, the theatre student program at Arcadia High School. They will sing four songs with Egan, and then two from their upcoming production of Curtains.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 2014 Season-opener of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic The Sound of Music has been enchanting audiences since it opened on January 17th, kicking off the theatre's 20th Anniversary Platinum Season. On Sunday, March 2nd, Way Off Broadway will be offering a special Sing-A-Long performance of the show where the audience will be encouraged to sing the songs along with the cast.

After the Second World War, a German couple, Lisa and Walter, are sailing to Brazil. Lisa, unbeknownst to her husband, was a camp guard at Auschwitz and feels she recognizes a former Polish inmate, Marta. Gloucester Stage Board of Directors President Bea Waring and President Elect Robert Boulrice have announced that Costin Manu has been named the new Managing Director of Gloucester Stage Company. A veteran theatre professional with a 35-year career in the arts, Mr. Manu recently relocated to Cape Ann from Canada to begin his duties at Gloucester Stage. Board of Directors President Elect Robert Boulrice elaborates on Manu, 'Costin has many skills. He has been successful more than once at knitting the theaters he manages into the fabric of the community. He understands the economic development potential that a business/theater interaction offers to a community. It will be fun introducing Costin Manu to the Gloucester community.' Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric Engel is excited to collaborate with the new Managing Director,' Costin is a great catch for the Gloucester Stage.
