From 8-11 p.m., an encore telecast of the 1946 movie classic 'It's a Wonderful Life' (1.1/4 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers) jumped 38% versus the most comparable year-ago telecast in 18-49 (1.1 vs. a 0.8 on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012) and grew 29% or 1.2 million persons in total viewers (5.371 million vs. 4.177 million). Versus NBC's year-ago 8-11 p.m. average for the Friday before Christmas, 'It's a Wonderful Life' is up 38% in 18-49 (1.1 vs. 0.8 for Friday, Dec. 21, 2012) and up 23% or 1.0 million persons in total viewers (5.371 million vs. 4.376 million).

Bette Midler will be portraying another Hollywood icon after her turn as Sue Mengers in I'LL EAT YOU LAST on Broadway and in LA. According to Deadline, Midler will star in HBO Films' upcoming Mae West biopic, directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist) from a script by Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots).

NBC will celebrate the lighting of the world's most famous Christmas tree with a live broadcast from Rockefeller Center in New York City tonight, Dec. 4 (8-9 p.m. ET). The star-studded holiday special is hosted by 'Today' anchors Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales, and will feature performances from Mary J. The LA Times reports today that the going rate for the best seats in the house for Bette Midler's Los Angeles engagement of her hit Broadway show I'LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS is just over $400, including fees. The Geffen Playhouse opened individual ticket sales last Friday, November 8, with prices ranging from $87 to $397. The cheapeast are already sold out.

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.
