Yale Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of THE MOORS by Jen Silverman, directed by Jackson Gay, January 29-February 20 at Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street). Opening Night is Thursday, February 4.

Set to soar through December 20 at the award-winning not-for-profit theatre, Maltz Jupiter, the electrifying blockbuster follows the story of Billy, the youngest child of a blue-collar family who discovers his unlikely and extraordinary gift for ballet. Juxtaposed against the backdrop of the UK miners' strike of 1984, Billy's only escape may be the prestigious Royal Ballet School, a place no working-class boy has ever gone.

Continuing a tradition inaugurated in 2006, the Met offers a holiday presentation sung in English with special discount pricing for families this December and January. This year's production, Rossini's madcap comedy The Barber of Seville, opens December 16 and stars Isabel Leonard and Ginger Costa-Jackson as Rosina; David Portillo and Taylor Stayton as Count Almaviva; Elliot Madore and David Pershall as Figaro; Valeriano Lanchas as Dr. Bartolo; and Robert Pomakov as Don Basilio. Antony Walker conducts all nine performances of the opera, which runs through January 2.

Among the 17 recipients of the 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom are Broadway legends Stephen Sondheim and Barbra Streisand, as well as pop star and ON YOUR FEET! creator Gloria Estefan. President Barack Obama named this year's honoreees last week, and the awards will be presented at the White House today, November 24th.

Today in 2008, Billy Elliot opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1312 performances. Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on the 2000 film Billy Elliot. The music is by Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall, who wrote the film's screenplay. The plot revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the UK miners' strike in County Durham, in North Eastern England. It won ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards, including, in each case, best musical.

The Old Globe's 18th annual production of DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, starring J. Bernard Calloway in the title role, opens tonight, November 12, 2015 and will run through December 26th.

The Pasadena Playhouse presents BREAKING THROUGH, a world premiere musical, with book by Kirsten Guenther, and music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz. The production is choreographed by Tyce Diorio, directed by Sheldon Epps and begins rehearsals this week. Yale Repertory Theatre opens its 2015-16 season with the world premiere of INDECENT, a new play with music, written by Paula Vogel, created by Paula Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Rebecca Taichman, at the University Theatre (222 York Street), now through October 24. Opening Night is tonight, October 8. The world premiere of INDECENT is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse, where it will play November 13-December 10.
