There may only be a few remaining performances of Lyric Stage's ANYTHING GOES, but there's still plenty to see and hear before the ship sails beyond closing night this Sunday. The show (which features a cast of 37 actors and an astounding 33-piece orchestra) appears as a never-before-seen edit, written exclusively for Lyric Stage by musical director and conductor Jay Dias. With over three hours of old fashioned musical theatre comedy on stage, there's surely something to please the whole family in this lavish, timeless tale.

Some musicals make you think, some make you cry, while others just give you a permanent smile on your face for the duration of the show. The latter was the state of this reviewer as we set sail on the S.S. American for a rollicking "Bon Voyage" in Goodspeed Musicals' opening show of the 2016 season, ANYTHING GOES. This production is truly "De-Lovely" and lives up to the standard and quality that audiences are used to experiencing in the intimate, beautiful setting that is the Goodspeed Opera House.

365 WOMEN A YEAR: A PLAYWRITING PROJECT involves hundreds of women who have written one-act plays about extraordinary women from both the past and present. The project's goal is to write women back into the social consciousness. This year's 365 WOMEN A YEAR event invites us to enter the worlds of 1800's Sahara Desert, refugee-laden 1930's Paris, mental illness and an often attacked tearoom in the early 20th century on MacDougal Street. These and other diverse stories showcase the talents of Kendra Augustin, Karin Diann Williams, Robin Rice, Susan Shafer, D. Lee Miller, Michael angel Johnson, Barbara Kahn and Kat Mustatea. All the plays are written and directed by women. The evening of readings will take place on March 23rd, at the Theater for the New City, Cino Theater, 155 1st Avenue at 10th Street. (By subway: L to 1st Avenue; 6 to Astor Place.) The readings are free, but reservations are highly suggested. www.mustatea.com/365-women.

Attending a multilingual performance at Cafe Sabarsky in The Neue Galerie (86th Street and Fifth Avenue) is like stepping back in time. The room speaks to an era of higher refinement, not stuffy, but encouraging pedigree and brio. Few artists epitomize this more than celebrated cabaret veteran singer/pianist Steve Ross, whose fascinating and emotionally translucent shows here never fail to enlighten and entertain.

Cabaret is set in 1930s Berlin, just around the time the Nazi Party began rising to power in Germany. The Emcee, Sally Bowles and a raucous ensemble take the stage at the Kit Kat Klub nightly to tantalize the crowd, and to leave their troubles outside. But as life in pre-WWII Germany grows more and more uncertain, the club, a metaphor for the threatening state of the late Weimar Germany begins to fall apart.
