Following a critically acclaimed run at London's Bush Theatre, Olivier nominated actress and writer CUSH JUMBO (The River, Julius Caesar, "Getting On") brings her "tour de force" (Times) one-woman show JOSEPHINE AND I to the Public Theater. Of the current production, The New York Times said, "Cush Jumbo is transfixing!" Featuring swinging jazz and ragtime rhythms, this theatrical event, directed by Tony nominee PHYLLIDA LLOYD (Julius Caesar, Mary Stuart, The Iron Lady, Mamma Mia!), interweaves a modern day story of an ambitious young woman with the fascinating life of the peerless, fearless Josephine Baker - first African-American performer to rise to international prominence, a French Resistance spy and civil rights activist, and muse to Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.

Orchestra Holistic is a new collective of musicians established for symphonic excellence in the performance of Hip-Hop and R&B. The core of the group consist of famed hip-hop trio Holistic, renown French songstress Evaanz, with special guest appearances by up and coming urban pop artist Jenny Bapst. The symphonic composition infuses the classical orchestral spirit and urban grit. Musicians hailing from a wide array of experience and education lend to the fundamental execution of a unique musical performance. The group will debut selections from midnight symphony.

Daniel Koren is an Emmy-nominated comedian/composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Upon graduating from Berklee College of Music, Koren moved to NYC and has been composing music for TV, and directing commercials and music videos. His innovative musical-comedy work with the Koren Ensemble, gained excessive popularity and received more than a million views on YouTube. Koren is currently on tour with "The Most Important Thing," a musical comedy live show, with a choir of his alter egos projected on a screen.

Channeling Mother Nature, David Mramor is Enid Ellen, accompanied by singer-songwriter/pianist Greg Potter. The pair brings a raw intensity to their performance: mixing alternative ballads, acapella and glam rock. Enid's intense ceremonial performance has drawn warm support from the downtown crowd, including John Cameron Mitchell and Starsky and Cox. On this night, they pay homage to their hero, their goddess Tori Amos. Joining them are Bridget Barkan, Nicholas Gorham, Halina Larsson, Brett Every, Natti Vogel, Beth Braddock on drums, Kissey and Eric Schmalenberger!
Proceeds from the show will go to RAINN- Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network.

Tony nominee and Obie Award winner Daniel Breaker (The Book of Mormon, Passing Strange, Shrek the Musical) makes a triumphant return to Joe's Pub with an evening of songs and stories about the highs and lows of life in the city. Called "light-handedly charming" by The New York Times, DOWN AND OUT promises to bring an electrifying mix of songs, from soul-searching blues to rousing funk, all served up with charm and biting wit. The night will feature Jacob Ming-Trent (Shrek, Hands On a Hardbody, Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream) and a band led by Jon Spurney (Passing Strange).

Dubbed 'Best Lounge Act of 2009' by New York Magazine, Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra return to play their edgy brand of jazz/folk/alternative nosh with a chewy singer-songwriter center. With melancholy wit and a cockeyed worldview, sepia-toned frontman Lipton and band mates Eben Levy (guitar), Ian Riggs (bass) and Vito Dieterle (sax) deliver songs steeped in mixed-message sincerity and soul. The band has appeared at Celebrate Brooklyn, MASS MOCA, Bryant Park, the Camden Opera House, Tangier (LA), Vermont Arts Exchange, and has been featured on NPR and radio stations nationwide.
JACOB GARCHIK: PREMIERE OF YE OLDE

Jacob Garchik returns to Joe's Pub with newest project Ye Olde, a band that is developing a sound that can be described as the contemporary vibe of a soundtrack to a 1970's remake of a 1930's movie about the Middle Ages. Ye Olde features Garchik on trombone, Mary Halvorson, Brandon Seabrook, and Jonathan Goldberger on guitars, and Dan Weiss on drums.
TOMMY WALLACH: WE ALL LOOKED UP BOOK/ALBUM RELEASE

Tommy Wallach and his band perform to celebrate Wallach's debut novel We All Looked Up (Simon & Schuster), which MTV describes as Skins meets The Breakfast Club meets Lars Von Trier's Melancholia. Wallach and his band will be playing through We All Looked Up: The Album, the companion record written by the author that will release simultaneously with the novel on March 24. Joshua Pickard of Nooga calls the album "lyrical and ornate but not needlessly complicated, with enough strings, guitars and Wurlitzers to make Sun Ra blush."

Matt Ray, whom Across the Arts UK calls "wonderful - so instinctive," brings his solo project to back to Joe's Pub. Though Ray is best known for his work as pianist, backing vocalist, and music director for downtown luminaries like Joey Arias, Justin Vivian Bond, Taylor Mac, Bridget Everett and Lady Rizo, it is his own original songs that remind us of what music can and should be: real, dynamic, soulful, and honest. He has worked with Burning Spear, Anita O'Day and many of the world's top performers. An eclectic mixture of folk, jazz and originals, this solo show draws from Ray's three albums as well as mines material from the American songbook, and introduces brand new songs.
KOOL KEITH: GOT MY OWN BAND

"Rap iconoclast and general eccentric," (Brooklyn Vegan) Kool Keith debuts his live band, Lucky Bears Foot. An original member of New York's new-school pioneers, the Ultramagnetic MCs, "Kool" Keith Thornton is best known as a solo rapper. His signature style is stream-of-consciousness lyrical flow and complex vocals, two skills that earn him a perennial nod from the underground hip-hop community. The average Kool Keith album is peppered with bizarre, disjointed, even delusional or disassociated themes, concepts and references. Nearly all of his albums incorporate a satirical dislike for more commercialized strains of hip-hop, as well as major record labels.
JULIANE JONES & BA BAN: CHINESE EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC

Singer-songwriter and ethnomusicologist Juliane Jones joins Ba Ban Chinese Music Society in an exploration of East/West cultural exchange. Their Chinese Experimental Music live show uses popular music conventions to curate Chinese traditional music genres of kunqu opera, guqin song, pipa and xiao music and Buddhist chant. Jones writes songs (in Chinese, English, and French) that evoke the astute and playful lyrics of Serge Gainsbourg, and the vivid narratives in the French Chanson genre with elements of Canto-pop music, inspired particularly by the Chinese artist Faye Wong. Ba Ban features pipa virtuoso Zhou Yi and bamboo flute master Miao Yimin. Ba Ban perform on silk and bamboo instruments at renowned concert halls around the world. Acclaimed Chinese opera (kunqu) artist Qian Yi collaborates with Ba Ban in bringing Chinese traditional culture to global audiences.
