The Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC) is pleased to announce the 2018 MAC Award nominees. The nominees, in a majority of the categories, were determined by votes cast by the active MAC membership. The MAC Board of Directors selected the nominees for Show of the Year. Special committees selected the nominees in the Ensemble Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Instrumentalist, Piano Bar Singing Entertainer (Female; Male), Recording (LaMott Friedman), Major Recording, Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories. The names of the songwriters in the Song and Comedy/Novelty Song categories are being withheld during the voting period, but will be announced publicly as soon as the voting period concludes.

 Innovator, music pioneer, composer and pianist Chick Corea pairs with the incomparable king of American jazz orchestras, Jazz at Lincoln Center Or chestra in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall for a powerhouse concert on March 25, 2018. Since embarking on a solo career in 1966, Corea has been at the forefront of jazz, both as a renowned pianist forging new ground as an innovative electric ke yboardist with his acoustic jazz bands Return to Forever, the Elektric Band, and now, the electro / acoustic Vigil.

It was a cold night in the City of Emeralds. The kind of cold where your words just hung in the air as you spoke. Lucky for me and the other patrons of Cafe Nordo, the doors would soon open. Once inside a sultry dame looked me up and down and uttered the word I'd been waiting all night to hear, "Name?" Then another dame led me to my table plied me with drinks and food and thus began my journey into Book-It Repertory Theatre's sumptuous mystery dining experience of Dashiell Hammett's "The Maltese Falcon". An experience that may not make me wealthy as the only falcon I found was a gold dusted cookie (which was delicious) but I certainly left the place richer after having seen one of my favorite Nordo and Book-It shows to date.

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) has added a performance (February 8 at 9pm) to its critically lauded world premiere production of Adrienne Kennedy's He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box, directed by Evan Yionoulis. The run will conclude, as a scheduled, on February 11.

Step Afrika!, the first professional dance company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping, brings its latest piece, The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence, to The Soraya for its company debut on February 8 at 8:00pm. Based in Washington, D.C, Step Afrika! is rooted in the African tradition of Gumboot and brings it into the 21st century with an American blend of percussive movement and electrifying rhythms.

Derek Smalls, the bass force formerly of the fabled heavy metal band formerly known as Spinal Tap, returns with the release of his first full length solo venture Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing), out globally April 13 via Twanky Records/BMG on digital, CD and vinyl.

Cumberland County Playhouse launches its 54th season in Crossville with a slate of productions that range from exciting new Broadway shows, noteworthy premieres and revivals of audience favorites.

Lantern Theater Company continues its 24th season with Michael Frayn's award-winning play Copenhagen. Considered the greatest play ever written about science and winner of two Tony Awards including Best Play, Frayn's riveting drama puts us in the heart of the greatest moral dilemma of the 20th century. Kittson O'Neill will make her Lantern directorial debut, working with cast members Charles McMahon, Sally Mercer, and Paul L. Nolan. The upcoming 28th annual The Donald M. Ephraim Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival will present movies from around the world, opening with BODY AND SOUL: An American Bridge, focusing on the early performance history and cross-cultural impact of the jazz standard by Jewish composer Johnny Green.

Robert Schenkkan's The Great Society, the second half of the epic drama about President Lyndon Baines Johnson, makes its Washington, D.C. debut at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, following the theater's critically acclaimed 2016 run of All the Way. Kyle Donnelly returns to Arena Stage to helm this political thrill ride that shines a bright, clear light on a pivotal moment in American history (New York Times). Chronicling LBJ's second term as he seeks to maintain his relationship with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and complete a raft of impossibly ambitious social policy projects, The Great Society runs February 2-March 11, 2018 on the Fichandler Stage.

It has been 4 years since 2013's critically acclaimed, Grammy nominated, and number 1 Billboard Blues album Seesaw was released by singer-songwriter and blues-rock powerhouse Beth Hart and guitar hero Joe Bonamassa.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers, announces its Top Holiday Songs for 2017. According to an ASCAP analysis of streaming and terrestrial radio data, 1994's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You,' written by Walter Afanasieff and Mariah Carey, moves to #1, joining enduring Christmas classics like 'A Holly Jolly Christmas'(written by Johnny Marks, 1962) and 'Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow'(written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne, 1945), at the top of the charts. Berkeley Repertory Theatre presents Watch on the Rhine, Lillian Hellman's 1940s political thriller about loyalty, family, and sacrifice. The play, directed by Berkeley Rep's associate director Lisa Peterson, begins previews on Thursday, November 30, 2017 and runs through Sunday, January 14, 2018. The Barn Players are pleased to present the Tony Award winning musical 'Grey Gardens,' Today, September 15th through Sunday, October 1st. Based on a 1975 documentary, the musical tells the true life story of Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, the eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Set in 1941 and 1973 at the Bouvier mansion in East Hampton, this bold musical follows this mother and daughter on their hilarious and heartbreaking journey from glamorous aristocrats to recluses in a crumbling house filled with memory and cats.
