Canadian Opera Company Presents Two One Acts, A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY and GIANNI SCHICCHI, Now thru 5/25

The Canadian Opera Company presents a double bill of one-act operas as part of its 2012 spring season with the Canadian premiere of Alexander Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and the return of Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, last seen with the COC in 1996. The two operas are presented in a new COC production by the legendary soprano-turned-director Catherine Malfitano and world-renowned conductor Sir Andrew Davis. A Florentine Tragedy is sung in German and Gianni Schicchi is sung in Italian, both with English SURTITLES™. The double bill of A Florentine Tragedy/Gianni Schicchi runs for eight performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts beginning tonight, April 26 and running May 2, 5, 12, 15, 18, 20 and 25, 2012.

Laugh Factory Las Vegas is introducing magic to their comedy mix with the addition of a resident show. The "Laugh Factory Presents: Murray 'Celebrity Magician'" stars magician Murray SawChuck, who comes direct from America's Got Talent and History Channels 'Pawn Stars'. The show debuts April 30th for a limited engagement and will be performed at 7:00 p.m. nightly, before the regular comic lineups take the stage at 8:30p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

CBS News legend Mike Wallace, the 60 MINUTES' pit-bull reporter whose probing, brazen style made his name synonymous with the tough interview - a style he practically invented for television more than half a century ago - died last night. He was 93 and passed peacefully surrounded by family members at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Conn., where he spent the past few years.

The South Florida community is invited to celebrate the achievements of the talented theater professionals in the region at the 36th Annual Carbonell Awards on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. 5th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets in advance are $25 with $20 tickets available for groups of 10 or more, $35 at the door. Aurora Theatre Company Receives 33 BATCC Nominations

The Bay Area Critics Circle Award nominations are in and Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company, now celebrating its 20th season, garnered 33 nods for the company's 2011 productions, the most of any company in its theater tier in the Bay Area. Top honors included nominations in the Drama category with recognition going to A DELICATE BALANCE, METAMORPHOSIS, THE ECCENTRICITES OF A NIGHTINGALE, and THE SOLDIER'S TALE. Aurora Artistic Director Tom Ross received two nominations for direction, as well as a co-directing nomination with Muriel Maffre. The 33 nominations are a record number for Aurora, the most nominations received during the company's 20 seasons.
