The 'Alley Theatre @ UH' season begins with Betty Buckley, Hallie Foote, Annalee Jefferies and Veanne Cox in award-winning Texas playwright Horton Foote's The Old Friends, a Southwestern premiere.

In conjunction with the centennial of World War I and the Kansas City debut of the Pulitzer Prize winning production of Silent Night, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents Over There! at the National World War I Museum on Saturday, August 23. This 1914 field dining experience, co-chaired by Trudy and Jack Gabriel, will include a cabaret performance featuring music of the era.

Principal casting has been announced for the upcoming world premiere production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. The cast will include Robert Fairchild as Jerry Mulligan, Leanne Cope as Lise Dassin, Veanne Cox as Madame Baurel, Jill Paice as Milo Davenport, Brandon Uranowitz as Adam Hochberg, and Max Von Essen as Henri Baurel.

It's that time of year, and I can't help but wonder if your CD collection and iPod are Tonys ready. This Broadway season has some really interesting contenders in the musical categories, and to get you ready for the big night, I'm recapping the albums you should be listening to (or at the very least pre-ordering).

In celebration of the anniversaries of the 1939-40 and 1964-65 New York World's Fairs-both of which took place in Queens-Museum of the Moving Image will present an exhibit of films that were made for the fairs and which reflect post-World War II-era optimism and focus on American industry as central themes. The exhibit, The World Comes to Queens: Films from the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs, featuring excerpts from six films, opens today and will be on view through August 31 in the Museum's Video Screening Amphitheater.

Long Beach Opera's offbeat double bill provides two iconic American takes on Igor Stravinsky's whimsical, neoclassical theater piece L'Histoire du Soldat. Composed in 1918, Stravinsky's original score was set to Ferdinand Ramuz's version of a Russian folktale about a soldier in pursuit of a princess and a treasure who is conned by the Devil.

University Press of Kentucky author Timothy K. Nenninger has been awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Meritorious Civilian Service from the United States Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel. Internationally renowned director Peter Sellars returns to the Canadian Opera Company this spring with a new company production of Handel's Hercules that propels the Greek myth into the modern day, giving voice to the untold horrors of war and the unspoken complications faced by veterans returning home. The COC premiere of Hercules reunites Sellars with celebrated conductorHarry Bicket and the all-star cast that presented this co-production with Lyric Opera of Chicago to unequivocal praise at its debut in Chicago in 2011. Hercules is sung in English with English SURTITLES and runs for seven performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts today, April 5, 11, 15, 19, 24, 27, 30, 2014.

Renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will return to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) to perform Elgar's Cello Concerto tonight, April 2, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman makes his first-ever appearance on the stage of Chicago's Civic Opera House on Sunday, April 6 at 2 pm. He will be accompanied by pianist and frequent collaborator Rohan De Silva in a program of Beethoven, Richard Strauss, and Debussy, with additional works to be announced from the stage. Video screens will provide up-close viewing for every seat in the opera house.

These are heady times for Kronos Quartet, celebrating its 40th anniversary this season. As you may know, on April 8 Nonesuch is releasing the Kronos Explorer Series box set and a new CD, A Thousand Thoughts. Both releases spotlight the quartet's longstanding engagement with musical traditions from around the globe.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) 2013-2014 Michael Hill series continues at the Harris Theater with French Revelations, Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30PM. Critically acclaimed and award-winning society members Nicholas Canellakis (cello), Bridget Kibbey (harp), Sooyun Kim (flute), Kristin Lee (violin), Anne-Marie McDermott (piano), and Paul Neubauer (viola) perform seminal works of French virtuosos Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Albert Roussel, Jean Francaix, Joseph Jongen, and Marcel Tournier. This diverse, all-French program includes Ravel's Jeux d'eau, a serene work for solo piano that takes inspiration from the cascading sounds of water, as well as two works from Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp and Sonata for Cello and Piano-known famously as two of the last three pieces the composer completed before his untimely death in 1918.
