There's not a day that goes by when someone doesn't mention The Birdcage to Nathan Lane. It's become such a loving film for so many people. This week, the Broadway veteran is getting ready for a screening of the 1996 film (based on the musical, Les Cage Aux Folles) with music by Stephen Sondheim at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, which will be followed by a Q&A session.

Some argue it is the epic play of our generation, an iconoclast of politics, existentialism and the last health crisis to impact the modern world indiscriminate of race, class or religion. Tony Kushner's opus Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes premiered in 1991 and opened on Broadway in 1993. It became a cult classic: turned into a miniseries and several highly successful remounts, the latest of which is being raved about as you read this; the National Theatre in London's production starring Hollywood hero and homo-controversy-courting treasure Andrew Garfield.

Producers Tim Levy (Director, NT America) and Jordan Roth (President, Jujamcyn Theaters) announced today that the National Theatre Production of Tony Kushner's epic and seminal masterwork, Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, will return to Broadway for the first time since its now-legendary original production opened in 1993. 

This modern American classic opens and makes a heavenly impression as the first show of Actors 2017 - 18 season.

A two-part staged reading of Angels in America will be held at the Omaha Community Playhouse as part of the Alternative Programming series. Part One: Millennium Approaches will be held Monday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. in OCP's Hawks Mainstage Theatre and Part Two: Perestroika will be held on Monday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. in OCP's Hawks Mainstage Theatre. The showings are free and open to the public with the opportunity for donation. No tickets or reservations are necessary.

Conceived as a response from Chicago theatre artists to the current political climate, the event's proceeds will benefit A Red Orchid Theatre and the Chicago chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
