Tim Rice's & Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita has had a thirty-eight year international love affair with the public since it  premiered in 1978 in London and in 1979 on Broadway. The newest revival in regional theatre is currently at Cabrillo in Thousand Oaks until October 23 only. An operetta based on Eva Duarte Peron and husband Juan Peron of Argentina, the story documents the rise to power of a simple peasant girl to the rank - almost - of Vice-President of her country. Playwright/actor John Copeland's latest theatrical project ANITA BRYANT'S PLAYBOY INTERVIEW recounts a specific incident in the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction saga of the former Miss Oklahoma and runner-up to Miss America whose 'Save Our Children' campaign fought to repeal gay rights in Dale County, Florida in 1977. 

This particular production is winner. There's plenty to enjoy about The Playhouse's production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The campy, over-the-top farce is wildly entertaining, and overall it's a feast for the eyes and ears.

Before James T. Kirk was the Captain of the Enterprise, there was Captain Christopher Pike… but that was before the debilitating accident that left him unable to speak or move. The Talosions are also obsessed with sex (watch the episode and see for yourself); with this in mind, every month Captain Pike creates an imaginary burlesque show for the Talosians, as a way of saying thank you. But today, something has gone horribly wrong, someone who he has not imagined has infiltrated the show, her name is Lwaxana Troi, daughter of the Fifth House, holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed. She has come to rescue Captain Pike from his life of fantasies and offer him a real woman's love.  The question is, does he want it?

As BroadwayWorld reported last week, Rob Ashford just directed a private industry reading of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with an all-star cast, including Broadway favorite Kristen Chenoweth. Now according to her recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the show might go on to have a life on Broadway. She explains: 'I think there is financing in place and I think it has to be a decision we can make and I have another show that I'm involved with about Tammy Faye Bakker. It's all about timing.'

Harry Pitz, father of Cherry Pitz, suggested to his friend Stanley Zbornak that he look up his daughter when in NYC. Little did Harry know Cherry was in dire need of a co-producer for the June show. The Open Fist Theatre Company presents an 'Early Look' at the second installment of Murray Mednick's eight-play 'Gary Plays" cycle, directed by Padua Playwrights Artistic Director Guy Zimmerman. Rehearsals are underway for Tarragon Theatre's world premiere of The Summoned by celebrated Canadian actor and screenwriter Fabrizio Filippo, now making his Tarragon playwriting debut with this twisted technological thriller that  takes audiences on a whirlwind ride from the past and into the future of the digital age. Directed by Tarragon's Artistic Director Richard Rose, The Summoned previews from April 20, opens April 27 and runs to May 29 in Tarragon's Mainspace.
