The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company, the recent recipient of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance's Achievement of Excellence Award for '30 years of celebrating America's heritage through productions and educational programs,' has its usual season filled with music, a radio show, classic gems and a world premiere. To celebrate ELTC's 30th birthday, the shows are a blend of old favorites and new discoveries.

The Lucille Lortel Awards announced today the details for the 25th Anniversary Lortel Awards Reception & Ceremony. The Awards Reception will be held on May 2, 2010 at 6 PM EST with the Ceremony beginning at 8 PM EST at Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street, between 11th & 12th Avenues. Two New York premieres will be featured in a concert by the Temple University Symphony Orchestra on Friday, April 9, 2010, at 8 p.m. in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall (Broadway at 65th St., Manhattan). One of the works, Ansel Adams: America (in its New York premiere) by jazz great Dave Brubeck and his son, Chris, will feature 100 projected images by the eminent American photographer. The all-American program also includes works by Bill Cunliffe (also a New York premiere), Samuel Barber, and Leonard Bernstein.

As foreign as the concept may seem to 21st Century playgoers, there was a time, so I'm told, when audience members freshly entertained by Gotham's newest theatrical endeavors would not rush home to discuss their reactions on the internet.  Instead, elegant couples, rowdy intellectuals and distinguished middle-aged gentlemen with their pretty young 'nieces' in tow would gather at one of Longacre (later known as Times) Squares' numerous emerging supper clubs and nightspots to mingle, refresh and perhaps even converse about the evening's entertainment.
