InDepth InterView: Amanda Green Talks Birdland Show, HANDS ON A HARDBODY, BRING IT ON!, Broadway Memories & More

Today we are talking to uniquely compelling composer and lyricist known for her urbane wit and contemporary sensibility, having contributed music and lyrics to the recent Broadway musicals HIGH FIDELITY, BRING IT ON! and HANDS ON A HARD BODY as well as penning many other original musicals and unique standalone songs over the course of her career, Amanda Green. Discussing her famous musical theatre lineage - her father was legendary theatrical icon Adolph Green and her mother is famous actress Phyllis Newman - and sharing stories from her youth, Green sheds some light on her familial profession of choice and details the finer points of her own songwriting process, particularly insofar as it pertains to her two recent major musicals seen in New York. On that note, Green offers the 411 on the creative process in composing both the rap/pop-infused, high-school-set BRING IT ON! alongside collaborators Tom Kitt and Lin-Manuel Miranda as well as her work with Phish's Trey Anastasio on the down-home country sounds of HANDS ON A HARD BODY. Additionally, Green previews what we can expect from her upcoming Birdland concert, AMANDA GREEN & FRIENDS, and illuminates some of her sparkling previous work which may make its way into the live show. Plus, looks back on her experiences with the screen-to-stage adaptation of HIGH FIDELITY, imparts hilarious anecdotes about writing for Playboy Magazine, reveals her involvement in the currently on-hold DEBBIE DOES DALLAS movie musical, reflects on her first musical revue and album, PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR MOUTH!, as well as drops hints on her next musical project and much, much more!

Theatre School at DePaul University to Present OUR TOWN, Begin. 10/2

The Theatre School at DePaul University is pleased to present OUR TOWN as the inaugural production at the new Theatre School building, located at Racine and Fullerton on the Lincoln Park Campus. The Fullerton Stage Theatre is a 250-seat thrust theatre located on the first floor of the school. Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN is directed by Damon Kiely, premieres on Friday, October 4, and runs through Sunday, October 13, 2013. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. An additional matinee performance will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 5. Previews are on October 2 and 3, at 7:30 PM.

New York Live Arts will present, as part of the Replay Series, works by Molissa Fenley spanning more than thirty years of her choreographic experiments in two varied programs October 2 - 5 at 7:30pm, with a lecture demonstration October 5 at 3:00pm. Fenley will present the world premiere of Found Object, the reconstructed solos The Floor Dances and Witches' Float, and the quartet Energizer, bridging her choreographic past with the present.

NY City Center to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of FALL FOR DANCE Festival with Alvin Ailey & Royal Ballet, Begin. 9/16

New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival with a very special season, beginning with two free evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, hosted by The Public Theater, on September 16 and 17 (rain date, September 18). The Festival will continue at City Center from September 25 - October 5 with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, including three new works from today's most exciting young choreographers, commissioned by New York City Center in celebration of the tenth anniversary.

The National Theatre's departing artistic director Nicholas Hynter had a lot to say when it came to the development plans for the Southbank Centre. Hynter recently submitted a 3,000+ word objection to the Lambeth Council regarding the project, which he claims would have a negative effect on the arts area.

Patti LuPone created the role of Lucia in the new musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (music and lyrics by David Yazbek), for which she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
