The Public Theater just presented a special 40th anniversary tribute to A Chorus Line last night, April 16 in honor of the first performance of this legendary musical that premiered in The Public's Newman Theater 40 years ago and went on to make musical theater history. To commemorate this landmark event, the cast of the critically-acclaimed musical HAMILTON, currently playing on the same Newman stage, presented original cast members of A Chorus Line with a plaque that will hang in the Ford Foundation Lobby of The Public. A strictly limited Australian Premiere Season of arguably the most infamous Broadway musical of all-time, CARRIE THE MUSICAL, will play the Seymour Centre now through November 30 as the final production in their 2013 Reginald season of independent works. CARRIE THE MUSICAL is also the final production of Squabbalogic Independent Music Theatre's first annual season, following hugely popular runs of Forbidden Broadway and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. A Chorus Line, starring John Partridge, Leigh Zimmerman and Scarlett Strallen, opens at the London Palladium tonight!
For the first time since its first London season, which opened in 1976 and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical, a full London revival of the Broadway production A Chorus Line will be staged at the London Palladium. The production is currently in previews to prepare for press night on Tuesday, February 19th. The season will be strictly limited, running through until June 29th.
Today, we're featuring Patti and Robert LuPone circa 1981. Patti LuPone created the role of Lucia in the new musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (music and lyrics by David Yazbek), for which she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She is the winner of the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Actress in a Musical and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Performance of the Season for her performance as Rose in the most recent Broadway production of Gypsy.
