As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this month, Broadway might be celebrating a successful season, but casting directors still are not pleased with their standing in the theatre community. After weeks of campaigning for healthcare and other benefits, The Teamsters Local 817 has reportedly received threatening letters from the Broadway League. The union just released the following statement:

Happy Tonys season BroadwayWorld! Is your CD collection and iPod Tonys ready? The big show-the 71th annual Tony Awards-is just over 24 hours away! Naturally, New York City and theatre fans across the world are excitedly buzzing about this year's ceremonies, which will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 8/7c on CBS. Tony Award Productions and Broadway Records have announced the first ever Tony Award Season compilation album to be released on CD and digitally at most major music retailers including Barnes & Noble and iTunes/Apple Music on June 9, 2017.

Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) is thrilled to announce a special performance on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 8:00pm featuring the 2017 Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir in their fully-staged concert event 'Paper Mill Sings' at the Hamilton Stage, 360 Hamiton Street in Rahway, NJ. This song and dance extravaganza will feature production numbers from popular Broadway shows including Newsies, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, The Wiz, A Bronx Tale, Disney's High School Musical, Annie, Sister Act, and more. Broadway shows are made, not born. Though the polished final product of a Broadway show seems to land before our very eyes as if put there by some divine circumstance, the life of the average show before it makes its way to New York is long.

This year's Stars in the Alley will take place on Friday, June 2nd at 1:00pm in Broadway's legendary Shubert Alley, west of Seventh Avenue between 44th & 45th streets.

Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators for media covering New York theatre announced today its award winners for the 2016-17 season in 27 categories.
