Celebrating 50 years of presenting 'the music and magic of Broadway,' the Diablo Theatre Company, formerly known as DLOC (Diablo Light Opera Company), is honoring repeated patron requests for a full-scale, eye-popping production of the classic Broadway musical 'Hello, Dolly!' Jack W. Batman, Executive Producer of the White Plains Performing Arts Center, has announced the postponement of Hello, Dolly! scheduled to play April 30 - May 17, 2009, the theatre's final production of its 2008-2009 season. The company, an Actors' Equity Association LORT theatre, has produced seven major musicals since November 2007, most recently a highly praised production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A Little Night Music starring Penny Fuller and Mark Jacoby.
The play with lyrics and music by UM alum Jerry Herman (A.B., '53) features beloved songs such as Hello, Dolly!, Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Elegance, It Only Takes A Moment, and So Long, Dearie. Herman's Tony Award-winning musical promises to be the thrilling conclusion to the Ring's season. The first Broadway show I ever saw was Hello Dolly! with Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway. It changed my life forever. This show is a masterpiece.

The 5th Avenue presents the classic American Musical Hello Dolly!, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Michael Stewart, from the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder. Set in New York in the 1890s, the show tells the story of the irrepressible Dolly Levi, matchmaker and social phenomenon, who is employed by grumpy small-town merchant Horace Vandergelder to find him a wife. But instead of helping Horace, the formidable widow assists his two hapless clerks Barnaby and Cornelius to find love and adventure in New York, while setting her sights on Vandergelder herself! Brimming with exuberant songs like ?Put On Your Sunday Clothes,? ?Before the Parade Passes By,? ?It Only Takes a Moment,? and of course the title song, Hello Dolly! celebrates the exuberant philosophies of seizing the moment and spreading one?s wealth around.
