A New Musical

Manfred Honeck will conduct the one-night-only all-Dvor?a?k program featuring the Carnival Overture; the Violin Concerto, with Ms. Mutter as soloist; and Symphony No. 9, From the New World, December 10, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.
This week at Joe's Pub at the Public, Oct. 28 - Nov. 3, will feature performances by JOAQUIN POZO, ADRIENNE TRUSCOTT'S ASKING FOR IT, LEWIS WATSON, JULIE ROBERTS, A NIGHT WITH ROBERT KRAFT, BRIDGET EVERETT: ROCK BOTTOM, NATHAN SALSBURG, DISAPPEAR FEAR, TOM RUSH, GAUCHO, ONLY WE WHO GUARD THE MYSTERY, and LET ME TRY THAT AGAIN: A BENEFIT FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS PROJECT.
Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

A Tribute to Little Walter is set for Bridge Street Live tonight, September 11th, 2013 at 8:00 PM. Featuring Mark Hummel, Billy Boy Arnold, Sugar Ray Norcia, Little Charlie Baty, and Anson Funderburgh.

Based on the beloved film starring Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, Secondhand Lions springs to musical life in Seattle with a superbly talented cast of Broadway stars and Seattle musical theater actors. Lead by Tony Award nominees Gregg Edelman and Mark Jacoby, this adventure story also features Jason Danieley, Jenny Powers, Kevin Earley, Jared Michael Brown, Kendra Kassebaum, Sophia Anne Caruso, and Justin Huertas. Johnny Rabe, star of Broadway's A Christmas Story, takes center stage as Walter.

Mary Testa, a two-time Tony Award nominee and celebrated veteran of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and film, is coming to Houston this summer for two performances only. In addition to her theatrical and film work, she has done numerous solo cabaret performances, but she has a real treat in store for Houston audiences. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at the Majestic Theatre for eight performances tonight, June 18-23. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, March 1.
