Sondheim. Signature’s Signature. Stephen Sondheim’s hidden gem Saturday Night (1953) is a Signature special concert event that will play for four performances only. Unproduced for almost 45 years, Saturday Night is the first musical Mr. Sondheim ever wrote. This romantic comedy surges with the composer’s unique musical voice and sophisticated lyrics. On the eve of the 1929 stock market crash, a group of Brooklyn boys despair their dateless Saturday nights. One of them dreams of Manhattan society life and hatches a get rich quick scheme which ultimately backfires. Features gems such as “Saturday Night,” “So Many People” and “What More Do I Need?”

Philly's Broadway dreams will come true for the thirdconsecutive summer when The Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF) partners with The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to present their Summer Performing Arts Intensive August 1 through Sunday, August 7, 2011. Acclaimed theatrical director and producer Richard Jay-Alexander and a roster of Broadway veterans will work with aspiring young performers from the Philadelphia area throughout the week in preparation for 'True Colors,' a one of a kind Broadway concert open to the public. The Broadway style concert event will take place at the Merriam Theater on Saturday, August 6th at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. Michael Balderrama has danced beside some of the biggest names in the music industry--Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Gloria Estefan, to name a few. He came to New York in 1999 to star in Saturday Night Fever, and has since taken on roles in many other Broadway musicals, including Movin' Out, Urban Cowboy, Hot Feet, and most recently, In The Heights, for which he won the 2007 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. Next up, Balderrama will join the cast of the new LCT3 show When I Come To Die, where he will play prison guard Cooper. Previews begin January 31st, with opening night set for February 10th.

With the 2011 season, the Cosmopolitan Cabaret will be shifting its Wednesday and Thursday night curtain times to an audience friendly 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $33 for Wednesday or Thursday evenings or Thursday matinee and $38 for Friday and Saturday evenings or Saturday and Sunday matinees.
