At last night's 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles appeared in a special performance with four-time GRAMMY winner and 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year Carole King.

In Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre's 'The Republic, or My Dinner with Socrates,' playwright/director Vit Horejs dramatizes the historic role of the renowned philosopher with toga-clad puppets, shadow figures and live music. The play's world premiere will be presented by La Mama E.T.C. in association with GOH Productions from tonight, November 29 to December 15 in its First Floor Theater at 74A East Fourth Street.

He began playing the piano at the age of five or six with the likes of Duke Ellington and Count Basie being frequent visitors to his Chicago home in the 1930's. She became the youngest performer ever to grace the stage at the legendary Rainbow Room in the late 1990's. The old world of jazz and the next generation collide at Stamford's Palace Theatre on November 13th at 8 p.m. when Hilary Kole and Freddy Cole headline the third performance in the Courtyard by Marriott Stamford Broadway/Cabaret/Jazz Series: "Perfect Pairs at The Palace." Bullins, winner of the prestigious NY Drama Critics' Circle Award and OBIE Award for The Taking of Miss Janie, has greatly influenced American theatre, especially Black theatre. His work, characterized by disdain for ineffective political rhetoric as a substitute for action, most often examines the lives of Black people in the inner city. In 1968, Clive Barnes, writing in the New York Times called Bullins 'a welcome addition to the ranks of New York playwrights.' Four years later, Barnes added 'Bullins writes the way Charlie Parker played: It is all so easy and effortless. It sounds improvised, and yet it doesn't sound improvised, simply because it is the improvisation of formality.' Today, Bullins is regarded as a seminal force in the American theater.

Fables are a fundamental form of narration from before the time of writing, meant for humor, pathos, tragic emotions and imparting fundamental concepts about living life.
