Roundabout Theatre Company has announced a new block of tickets is now on sale for Cabaret on Broadway starring Alan Cumming in his Tony Award-winning role as 'Emcee' and three-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams as 'Sally Bowles'. Tickets are now available through January 4, 2015. The production was originally scheduled to run through August 31.

We dug through our archives to unveil the history our 1998 revival of Cabaret. Take a look through the years as we trace back to the first preview of our multi award-winning production.

Today in 1998, the second Broadway revival of Caberat opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (then called the KIt Kat Klub), where it ran for 2377 performances. Cabaret is a musical based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1966 Broadway production became a hit and spawned a 1972 film as well as numerous subsequent productions. Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, it focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Overseeing the action is the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub which serves as a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening state of late Weimar Germany throughout the show.

Liza Minnelli first met Alan Cumming back in 1998. Cumming as performed both on and off-Broadway. His most recent performance was as in Broadway's Alan Cumming's Macbeth in 2013. He has also appeared in The Threepenny Opera, The Seagull, Macbeth, and Cabaret. This year, Cumming gets to return to Broadway in a new revival of Cabaret as the Emcee. Based on true events surrounding the 1978 Camp David Accords, the play follows the 13-day meeting between President Jimmy Carter, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat as they attempted to create the impossible: peace in the Middle East.
