National Theatre (Lyttelton)

Wig Out! tells of the fiercest battle in New York as the House Of Light compete with the House Of Diabolique for drag family supremacy at the Cinderella Ball. When Eric meets Wilson, it's a good old-fashioned boy meets boy fairy tale. However, when Wilson reveals his drag alter-ego Nina, questions of masculinity and gender come to the fore. In the tradition of Paris Is Burning, this big, bold and riotous play looks at gender, drag and fabulousness.

Glee-Cap: The End of Twerk.
by Robert Lawlor - Nov 14, 2013

Guys, you know I've been thinking - you know what Glee needs more of? Continuity, Klaine, and Katy Perry are all great things to say, but you know what Glee REALLY needs more of? TWERKING! Come on, just what we all want to see is our Gleeks twerk the night away. ..I know, I know - I'm a genius. Well, apparently Ryan Murphy and crew have heard my genius idea, and are giving us what we ALL want to see. Tonight, it's a twerking good time, Gleeks - and you ain't even ready. Twerking has taken control of the McKinley hallways, and New Directions is getting themselves set up to twerk the competition away with some twerking tutorials for those who lack the twerking ability. Rachel makes a change and cuts her hair, which does not sit well with her director, but despite the hair cut, Rachel kills it in the rehearsal room with her co-star singing 'You Are Woman, I Am Man'. After the number, the director is knocked out by how the hair cut enhances Rachel's performance. Score one for Ms. Berry! A bathroom revolution breaks out at McKinley thanks to Unique, while Rachel reveals her new do is a wig, and challenges Kurt to break out of his mundane routine and live a little. Who knew La Berry was such a rebel rouser? Kurt gives into Rachel's probing and they decide to break out the alcohol and let loose. Oh boy, another Berry Trainwreck Extravaganza?

BWW Blog: Eric Ulloa of Goodspeed's THE MOST HAPPY FELLA - At the End of the Day (or Week for That Matter…
by Guest Blogger: Eric Ulloa - Sep 13, 2013

There is a high holy day each week, where actors pause to relax and reflect on everything that has happened the 6 days prior…and thy name is Monday. So, with excitement for the blessed days arrival, the cast of The Most Happy Fella had their first run through for the show designers, producers and staff this past Sunday. Up until this point we have been blocking the individual scenes and numbers, not really aware of what the full journey would feel like. I knew the scenes and numbers I was in, that I had set transition assignments and that my chest seized up every time I finished dancing "Big D," but I had no idea what/how it all came together. Like Amanda Bynes to a ratty wig, we actors need an audience to really feel it all come together and add in that new element that we hadn't felt thus far.

Musa Publishing Releases ENTER TO WIN by Kirsten Jany
by Christina Mancuso - Jun 27, 2013

One murder - five different perspectives. Can you find out who is not telling the whole story? If you're looking for a great mystery/thriller with a Hollywood twist, check out Enter To Win by Kirsten Jany, now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, as well as Kobo books. Enter To Win When director Rob de Heer is found murdered on the set of his primetime soap Chrystal Falls, the investigation turns to a contest he recently launched, urging viewers to send in their own real life stories to be used on the show. Contestants are vying for a chance to have a character shaped after them, as well as a two hundred thousand dollar cash prize. The police are convinced the key to Rob's murder lies in the four finalists who have been invited to spend two weeks in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills. They recruit Rob's young assistant Jeremy to keep an eye on them under the guise of shooting a documentary on how they landed a part on the soap. Twenty-four year old contestant Corinne has spent all her life below the poverty line. Outfitted by the local 'Dressed for Success' chapter, she makes her way to a job interview when she stumbles upon a beautiful lost engagement ring. She can't resist putting it on, and soon finds herself trapped in the fantasy life she has projected to her new co-workers. Michael has learned the hard way that it's not enough to be declared 'not guilty' by the jury. Having lost his graphic design business and on the way to divorce, he wound up at the center of the investigation in his wife's untimely death. While there is not enough evidence to convict him, it doesn't lift the cloud of suspicion he has been living under. Desperate to clear his name, he seizes this opportunity to tell his side of the story on national TV. Trish, a housewife from Illinois, is in a rut. Largely ignored by her husband and children, she starts to question her own self worth. When she finds her husband is cheating on her, she follows him in a rental car. She sees him causing a hit and run accident that leaves a young man a quadriplegic. Being the only witness to the accident, she suddenly becomes a 'person of interest' to the police. She lands her husband in jail, only to find her family turning against her. Stephen, a thirty-eight year old construction worker, recently lost his wife Irene to ovarian cancer. Irene was a devoted fan of de Heer's soap and faithfully watched the show. She even opted for a wig styled after one of the characters. Unable to cope with her illness and resulting death, Stephen is haunted by having let her down. He finally decides to revisit the wig shop, whose owner managed to make Irene feel special those last agonizing months. He unexpectedly finds himself falling for the kind, caring saleswoman. But too ashamed to admit he hadn't accompanied his late wife to the fittings, he soon struggles in a relationship that is marred by his initial lie. While Rob's assistant Jeremy observes these four contestants, he gets increasingly concerned about his own safety. Could fame and fortune have a deadly appeal?

BWW Reviews: DIXIE'S TUPPERWARE PARTY is a Fun, Frivolous Night Out
by Jeff Davis - Jun 22, 2013

One person shows are a notoriously hard sell, unlike Tupperware's famous airtight bowls. I doubt anyone ever thought of combining the two with the notable exception of Kris Andersson, the writer and star of Dixie's Tupperware Party, now playing at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Though at times the touring show may not be as sturdy as the nearly indestructible Tupperware products, overall it's a laugh riot.
