This Thursday, July 17, Barnes & Noble Lincoln Triangle (1972 Broadway at 66th Street, 3rd Floor) will host an afternoon with the critically acclaimed Off Broadway musical Adding Machine. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a special 30 minute suite from the show, featuring the entire cast and band, followed by a cast CD signing. Adding Machine will play its final performance this Sunday, July 20 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane). Darkly comic and heartbreakingly beautiful, Adding Machine, a musical adaptation of Elmer Rice's incendiary 1923 play, tells the story of Mr. Zero, who after 25 years of service to his company is replaced by a mechanical adding machine. In a vengeful rage, he murders his boss. An eclectic score gives passionate and memorable voice to this stylish and stylized production, which follows Zero's journey to the afterlife in the Elysian Fields where he is met with one last chance for romance and redemption.

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).
Golden-voiced Kerry Butler - currently doing double-duty as the star of Broadway's smash hit XANADU and as Lindsay Price's backstabbing assistant Reese on the NBC series 'Lipstick Jungle' - has signed with record label PS Classics for her debut solo album entitled 'Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust.' Under the supervision of music director and album producer Michael Kosarin, with new orchestrations by Broadway's best, including Tony Award-winners Michael Starobin (Assassins, Spelling Bee) and Larry Hochman (Monty Python's Spamalot), recording commences Friday, February 29th, in a Manhattan studio. The label has set a release date of May 13th, 2008.

It is indeed perhaps the finest work ever to grace any theater at any time. It is difficult to ascertain that this is even the great master, Stephen Sondheim's, truest masterpiece. It probably is. However, with the gifts of COMPANY, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, FOLLIES, INTO THE WOODS, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, PACIFIC OVERTURES, ASSASSINS, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, GYPSY, and WEST SIDE STORY among others on his resume, it takes a huge amount of thought and commitment to go out on a limb and say that SWEENEY TODD is Sondheim's master achievement.
