Nevada Ballet Theatre Appoints Olivia Newton-John as 2016 Woman of the Year for Black & White Ball

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 28, 2015) Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) announced today that it will honor the multi-talented actress, singer, philanthropist and Las Vegas headliner Olivia Newton-John as Woman of the Year for the 32nd Annual Black & White Ball.  With more than 100 million albums sold, her successes include four Grammys, numerous Country Music, American Music, Billboard and People's Choice Awards, an Emmy Award, ten #1 hits (including “Physical,” which topped the charts for ten consecutive weeks) and more than 15 top 10 singles. In 1978, her co-starring role with John Travolta in “Grease” catapulted her into super-stardom and to date remains the most successful movie musical of all time.  Newton-John's many contributions to the performing arts and entertainment industry as well as her tireless charitable efforts will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23 at Wynn Las Vegas.

The man who spoke that iconic line on film is equally as legendary as the words themselves. Not only did Barry Bostwick play Brad Majors in the ROCKY HORROR film, but he also originated the role of Danny Zuko in GREASE on Broadway, won a Tony for THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM, and was nominated two other times. Since his beginnings on stage, he has become a nearly omnipresent face on screens both large and small for over four decades. Recently, I spoke with Bostwick while he was shooting in Vancouver about ALLELUIA!, his wildly eclectic career, and what it would take to get him back on a Broadway stage.

BWW Reviews: COOL RIDER Original Studio Cast Recording

Following a massive 235 people donating over £12,000 via Kickstarter, Cool Rider (the stage concert production of Grease 2) has been able to release a studio cast recording of the show that received four and five star reviews when being debuted in the West End last year. It may have only been on for seven performances but it had great impact which is reflected in the support it has received from the public. This was also echoed in the 2014 BroadwayWorld Awards whereby Cool Rider received a huge nine nominations. Furthermore, although only being released yesterday, the recording is currently in the top ten of the UK soundtrack iTunes chart.

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today the spring 2015 honorees recognizing theatre accomplishments by Minnesota students and schools participating in the 2014-15 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program culminating in the SpotLight Showcase Sunday, June 14 and Monday, June 15 at the State Theatre (805 Hennepin Ave., downtown Minneapolis). Now celebrating its Tenth Anniversary, SpotLight is the Trust's premier education initiative which supports and honors Minnesota high school musical theatre students and programs that produce annual musicals. Summer 2015 kicks off with star-power in Provincetown this Memorial Day Weekend. Leading off for Producing Artistic Director Mark Cortale's inaugural Broadway @ Town Hall season is comedian-actress Rosie O'Donnell with Sirius XM radio star Seth Rudetsky as pianist and host, for one show only on Sunday, May 24 at 9:00 PM, and featuring opening guest, indie rocker Melissa Ferrick. Rosie's stage credits include the Broadway productions of "Grease," "Seussical," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Love, Loss and What I Wore," and the Encores! production of "No, No, Nanette." In addition to her acclaimed stand-up comedy and film careers, she is perhaps best known on television as the host and Executive Producer of the Emmy Award winning talk/variety series "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," and more recently for her return to daytime television as co-host of ABC's "The View." The Ford's Theatre Society 2014-2015 season continues with the musical Freedom's Song: Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, directed by Jeff Calhoun, March 13 through May 20, 2015, at the historic Ford's Theatre (511 Tenth Street NW, Washington, D.C.). A new adaptation of the Broadway musical The Civil War, Freedom's Song features the words of Abraham Lincoln and music inspired by the letters of those who lived through the Civil War. The production is part of Ford's 150: Remembering the Lincoln Assassination, a series of events marking the 150 years since Abraham Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre.
