New Repertory Theatre announces the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Steven Dietz' dark comedy RANCHO MIRAGE, tonight, October 12 through November 3, 2013. Directed by Robert Walsh, RANCHO MIRAGE performs in the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, in Watertown, MA. Fresh from earning his PhD and eager to get on track for tenure, Curt (Carlos Emjay) is paying his dues teaching introductory acting classes at a women's college when Anna (Nicole Finney), a pushy freshman, requests his help preparing for an audition. He critiques her work on Portia from Julius Caesar harshly but she is faces his challenge. This encounter creates a powerful bond between them, and over the next sixteen years they attempt to communicate about their lives, careers, and fraught relationship with one another through Shakespeare.
Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present its annual Monday Night Open Rehearsal Series, this year featuring Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. On three Monday evenings - October 21 & 28 and November 4 - different actors and directors will explore the text of Julius Caesar, giving theater-goers the opportunity to become part of the discovery process, and experience different acting approaches and directorial interpretations of one of Shakespeare's boldest tragedies.
